What/Where is "HoT"?

I keep seeing people talk about it. I assume it's some sort of raid (not talking about 'Heal over Time')

The area inside the black square is known as Halls of Testing.

You don't typically dungeon crawl to it, or through it. Usually, a guild will have a permanently parked mage with Call of the Hero there, and that mage will summon the entire raid to the room marked Midayor. Monks and other players pull singles (hopefully) and you just sit in that room killing mobs.

Common questions:
• How do you get to a raid that is located there? You show up at the entrance of the zone and wait for COTH. Be sure to be in voice chat.
• Faction? You don't lose faction for killing the mobs in HOT.
• Purpose? The statless armor that drops here is used for quests in Skyshrine. These quests require Ally faction with the Claws of Veeshan (the Velious dragons) and 3 Velious armor gems (which range in price). This armor is some of the best in the game, except for the stuff that drops in North TOV and other hotly contested raid bosses. For many players, it is the best available armor.
• What about Dozekar? Dozekar shouldn't be considered part of HOT, really. He is a hotly contested 7-day target and will never be up while you're doing HOT; and if he did spawn, current P99 raid rules would force you to zone out before engaging him. You do HOT for the armor.
• Minimum raid size for HOT? From what this raider has seen, at least 30 players for efficient operation, ideally including 3+ level 60 warriors (or very strong pal/SK) who take turns tanking; 3+ clerics who do a complete heal chain; 2+ monks who know the area or are willing to die a lot figuring it out; and 2+ enchanters to mana sieve the mobs that can CH and Gate; and the rest DPS/bards/support. Some of the mobs have Fire or Cold AEs, so it's nice to have a bard for each melee group to protect them from that.

Thanks, my guild was running it tonight. As a Necro, Rotting Armor drops there and some of that is BiS for me I think.

Is it best to grind faction on giant guards in WL?

That works; so does attending a raid in Kael; and so does showing up to another guild's kill of King Tormax or The Statue of Rallos Zek, but you really have to be watching to catch it before it dies.
