Default Pet Exp Rules Tested

Hi folks,

New thread, just posting information for inquiring minds. Let's not muck this one up [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

The questions we were attempting to answer were centered around pets and exp rules.

Here are two more specific scenarios I asked about:
  1. Does player damage totaling less than 51% of the kill target's health impact how much exp the pet takes? Aka doing 1 pt vs 0 pts of player dealt non-pet dmg.
  2. How does grouping change the exp distribution rules when a pet is doing >51% of the dmg?

So, as another member recommended, I set out to get definitive answers for myself. I had an idea of what would happen from some veteran players giving their input from personal experience.

All tests were done as a:
  • Level 1 Dark Elf Necromancer
  • Killing Level 1 Decaying Skeletons
  • In Nektulos Forest

The results are:
  • A pet doing >51% of the damage takes 50% of the exp (See Kill 4 - Kill 6)
  • When solo - doing any non-pet player dealt damage UNDER the 51% break point does NOT yield any more than the 50% exp granted from the above bullet (See Kill 1 - Kill 6)
  • Having a pet up that does 0 points of damage does not take away any exp (See Kill 10 - Kill 11)
  • Being in a group bypasses bullet #1 (See Kill 12 - Kill 14)
  • Players must be within range of sharing exp per kills to be considered grouped (See Kill 15 - Kill 17)
  • While grouped, within or outside of exp sharing range, there may be a very tiny modifier for doing at least 1 point of player dealt non-pet dmg (See Kill 18 - Kill 20) The difference here was literally 1% over 3 kills at L1, on a 25% bonus exp weekend. Conclusion is that it's a negligible difference, but it exists)

Hope that helps cement things down a bit more.

Unanswered questions still include:
  • Whether or not re-charming mid fight resets the 51% calculator

This is the update from 2010 from Rogean regarding pet changes to exp on p99. AFAIK it was the last time that they tinkered with the code for this, but I could be wrong.

https://www.project1999.com/forums/s...highlight=pets

Rogean: Pets doing 50% of the damage to a mob will now take 50% of xp If ungrouped.

Testing should settle it, but my understanding was that 1) total pet damage can only steal the exp if you are ungrouped and 2) only if you are ungrouped and the pet does 50% of the total damage. I may have misread your data initially, it does some to hold up.

Did you happen to test what would happen if you did 1 damage while grped and both in exp range?

I've wondered what happens on my enchanter how it would work if I charm, fight, break charm, recharm and then kill. Is the total damage washed away with the new charm? Never tested it, but always wondered myself.

Kudos to the OP for recording and testing.

My experience on my mage is:
grouped: party all gets exp even if pet fully kills. All party members were in the group before combat began. There may be a range check.
Solo: Pet does 50% or more damage to target before or after the target is 50% dead, I only get partial exp.
Solo+Dismiss pet:Pet can do 99% of damage, then when dismissed I do 1% damage and get full exp.

This also holds up for Enchanter's charms from my watching and talking with enchanters.

Any new pet will start at 0% and work it's way up to 50% damage.
So if the mob has say 10% life left,. Your new pet can only do 5% of it's life in damage before it trigger the partial exp.

This is how it works for chain summoning as a mage and from my understanding the same for enchanters. (RL friend plays an ench)

Note that it says 50% of damage, not total life or remaining life.
So if you dismiss a pet/uncharm a pet it drops agro with the enemy target and thus recorded damage placed on the target from that previously charmed pet source. And starts over again with the new pet, even if it's the same pet(charm).

Similar to dieing, zoning and FD as a player. you can beat a mob to 1% life,. die, zone out or FD and a player can kill it getting full exp.

Clearly the words of a reasoned, thoughtful individual who's capable of contributing meaningful information. Yep, I'm sure the developers will be all over this post.

I hope you die in a fire. How's that for a reasoned thoughtful individual?

Reporting you for a continued abuse and flaming outside RNF, enjoy the ban.
