And to force ambient occlusion you'll need nVidia Inspector.

There is no enable AO usage option.
My apologies - nVidia Inspector is the wrong app for this, what you want is nVidia Profile Inspector.

Set "Antialiasing - Setting" to 4x.
Also, I'm not sure what the reasoning is for limiting this to 4x. Cucumbers might've had some rationale behind it - perhaps EQ isn't capable of anything beyond 4x, e.g. In any case, feel free to set it to 8x or whatever your GPU supports.

  • Set "Anisotropic filtering" to 16x
  • Enable "Antialiasing - FXAA"
  • Disable "Antialiasing - Gamma correction" (this will mess up your text if enabled)
  • Set "Antialiasing - Mode" to "Override any application setting"
  • Set "Antialiasing - Setting" to 4x
  • Set "Antialiasing - Transparency" to 8x (supersample)
  • Set "Texture filtering - Anisotropic sample optimization" to "On" (recommended to improve loading times)
  • Set "Texture filtering - Negative LOD bias" to Clamp
  • Set "Texture filtering - Quality" to High quality
  • Disable "Threaded optimization"
Newer GeForce cards now support Multi-Frame Sampled AA (MFAA) - I'm not sure if this does anything for antialiasing in EQ, but I've been playing with it enabled without any problems.

Just wanna mention here, if anyone has lag when looking around quickly in 3rd person, it helped (for me) to switch Vertical Sync to "Use the 3D application setting"

Hmm wonder if this will help with the Velious zones that spin your camera quickly when making slight turns.

Thank you

I actually don't use any of the forced AA settings for EQ cause I hate how it makes my text look
Have you tried a font not made in 1998? Arial is ugly as sin. Yes it's 'classic' but really any Sans Serif font will do

Ok so, after some experimenting we figured out some ideal nVidia settings for maximum quality:
  • Set "Anisotropic filtering" to 16x
  • Enable "Antialiasing - FXAA"
  • Disable "Antialiasing - Gamma correction" (this will mess up your text if enabled)
  • Set "Antialiasing - Mode" to "Override any application setting"
  • Set "Antialiasing - Setting" to 4x
  • Set "Antialiasing - Transparency" to 8x (supersample)
  • Set "Texture filtering - Anisotropic sample optimization" to "On" (recommended to improve loading times)
  • Set "Texture filtering - Negative LOD bias" to Clamp
  • Set "Texture filtering - Quality" to High quality
  • Disable "Threaded optimization"
I made these changes to my 3D controls, but I'm not seeing a noticeable difference. Maybe worth noting, I'm using the Highres 4X HD texture files. Would these files negate the 3D settings?
