If discord and voice apps were banned would this be more classic?
It seems like this facet of modern eq is one of the most game changing raid aspects.

I can't imagine how we'd ban them, but I've thought this the whole time.
To me EQ raiding comms can only be in-game text. Voice comms for EQ is just weird. | ||

There were voice chat programs in 2000 that I was using in Athens, GA at the time while playing EQ. I think it worked off of MS Chat or MSN/Windows Messenger. It was a long time ago. Even worked somewhat ok on my shitty @Home DSL connection with my 633 Mhz Celeron comp, with 768 Megs of RAM and a Voodoo 4 4500 PCI on Windows ME. Used to use it to chat with my friends while doing frost giants at the GD spires.
Shit was rare, but classic. EDIT: Maybe have been early 2001 too, but it was before 9/11 as I PCS'ed to MCBH KBay in August of that year.

I recall raid leaders of vox/nag raids having to spam commands so you could see them through the fight spam. Let's not go back to that, mates.

Nothing ruins this game more than a bunch of nerds with asthma wheezing in your ear.

I'm pretty sure Roger Wilco was around before EQ and I'm absolutely sure it was around by the time Kunark released. Most people weren't super internet savvy back then though and weren't aware of it. I started using it for playing Fighter Ace because it's pretty damn hard to type in the middle of a dogfight.

I remember using yahoo chat and icq circa 1999-2000 for voice chat so yeah it was a thing. Not every guild but certain basement dwelling neckbeards were for sure doing it.

I remember my guild started using Ventrilo during late-Luclin or early-PoP era. So maybe not exactly in "classic era", but close enough. Before that, it was raid leaders making 100 hotkeys with all-caps shout commands. No thanks.
