I usually get my first Begging skill point in the first dozen mobs or so.

The next point, however...

I macro'd sense heading to one of my Logitech G13 keys and set it to press every 0.5 seconds....6 levels later (at least a few hours of it none stop being pressed) was still at 0 so pretty sure you need to train at least the 1 point

Never trained sense heading or bound it to a macro. It takes so long to level that there's plenty of time to mash the button between pulls or while chatting with someone.

Made a mage alt and bound sense heading to W (my walk forward button). I was level 9 and still hadn't gotten a skill up, went and put 1 point in it and maxed it like a level later. I wonder how long it would actually take to get that first point and get the ball rolling on it.

If you don't put in a point into sense heading or swimming it takes FOOOOREEEEEEEEVEEEEEEERRRRR to get that first skill up because, you know, you're at 0. Just throw in a point and you're good.

After that, only the level-locked skills require training to be useable.
