I don't understand this. What makes you think that federal workers are demanding more money then we're being paid? Granted i did bitch about the lack of cost of living incease, but that seems to happen a lot these days. Anyways, that is a completely different conversation, which i suppose we could get into if you'd really like. I'm talking about the current shutdown. People being forced to go to work without receiving a paycheck. Going to work and then going to a food bank for shit's sake. And not because republicans want to downsize government and democrats are fighting it, which is more normal. Because of petty pride.
Its not about petty pride. Its about the country showing a renewed interest in the working class poor. Technically, alot of us on this thread are arguing for the same thing. We're primarily in disagreement over how to address. Left seems to think that, despite decades of promises from their leaders often resulting in backstabs to middle class america and the working poor, that their leaders still intend to address our issues despites mounds of evidence to the contrary when their policies translate to reality..

Right says all evidence seems to point towards leaders "marketting" solutions that are actually exacerbating things (often intentionally), get out of our pocket and close the gates till we actually see some improvement to the causal effects.

And im not talking about party leaders, im talking about ordinary folk that just wanna live their lives without corporate and government overstep.

Fuck the dog n pony show over in dc. Their shit is way overplayed at this point, and they are wayyyyy too present in our everyday lives with the nonstop media circus this past decade and counting. . Politics wasnt some obnoxious 24/7 grandstanding faggotry 20 years ago. Elections came about every 2 years, people studied to the extent that they wanted to, cast their ballot, and life moved on. Todays bullshit is an entirety different matter. The government + media cabal overstepped some serious boundaries in prudence some time ago. They do not deserve this much of our mindspace with one political stunt after another, and every tv show (not even including the news) heavily laced with political undertones and sardonic political humor.

The wealthy make their money through capital gains, and using their corporations to award themselves free stock and stock options which allows them to bypass "salaried income tax" on top of expensing just about everythibg possible from their private lives against their companies. In the meanwhile, employees are not even able to write off their transportation costs getting to work, let alone their vehicle payment which is largely necessitated by increasing commute distances throughout the country. How is a 200mile/week commute to get to and from work NOT a work related expense?
Ok so rich people are bad? I... agree with you?

Hate to be a dick here but the government didn't chose where you work or where you live.

As an aside rant, i agree driving in America is fucked. I recently completed a 5 year contract out in Japan, and one of things i talk about when people ask me what i miss the most i say the robust public transit system. That and their magical toilets, ahhhhhh, but i digress. I've traveled pretty extensively worldwide, including some "shit holes", and almost all of them have better public transportation than us. But for some reason when i advocate for more public transportation here i get called a dirty socialist.

Additionally, i assure that I also do not receive any tax write offs from my commute. And i drive roughly 200 miles a week to work. I'm not sure why this is the democrats fault? Are there republicans out there somewhere that are advocating for tax breaks on commutes? Are republicans trying to fix any of the problems you mentioned above? Hell, are any politicians? Please do tell.

Like you stated at the beginning of your posts tonight, the people voted on blablabla. Well, americans also voted for a wall, and a renewed approach to controlling the unfettered illegal immigration that the left has allowed, and even promoted, over the past decade.
We did? When?. Oh, you mean the presidential election? The one that Trump won with 62 million votes to Clinton's 65? Not to mention that other nearly 7 million that voted for Johnson, Stein, and McMullin - I don't believe any of these candidates were pro wall.

I won't dispute that Trump won the election, we can discuss the merits of the electoral college later, but to say the majority of americans voted for this wall is untrue.

Ya know what though i'd be for a public vote for the wall. Lets have a referendum!

anyways, night night.

If you wanna shift away from meeting in agreement, then right on, fuck you too and good luck with your free work.

Its not a matter of majority rules. How did mob rule work out for France after the revolution?

Obviously, ENOUGH Americans consider unfettered illegal immigration to be a problem or we wouldnt be having this discusssion.

This all could be solved if we set aside our differences and found ways to accommodate each other rather than point fingers. Or try to shame the other guy.

This is generally why I am personally so anti government ironically. Because in all my life I have only been able to temporarily coerce or force compliance between two individuals, let alone two groups. I don't think force will work in achieving results, nor will extortion.

This all may feel good, at the end of the day we are left with a major systemic problem with immigration enforcement and no government.

The correct solution isn't going to be implemented by fighting with your political opponents until we get a reasonable group of leaders to represent us.

Yep. Thats why i said, if every attempt to bridge the chasm is met with slapping the others hand away and spouting off some divisive polemic bullshit then expect this shutdown to go on indefinitely.

I really don't like articles like this but this one had a point:

Quote:
Imagine this: A 46-year-old former congresswoman and mother of three, who just lost a Senate bid to one of the most despised incumbents, sets off on a road trip adventure to clear her head.
She instagrams part of her trip to the dentist. She gives a two-hour interview to The Washington Post where she shows no real knowledge of policy.
Like a first-year college student, she pontificates on whether the Constitution is still a thing that matters after all these many years.
And then she writes a stream of consciousness diary entry, where she is all in her sad and confused feelings, over ... something:

Lessons In Gold
Hannah Kearney has been in love with mountains ever since she first strapped on a pair of skis as a young girl, but her gold medal journey almost never happened.

Have been stuck lately. In and out of a funk. My last day of work was January 2nd. It's been more than twenty years since I was last not working. Maybe if I get moving, on the road, meet people, learn about what's going on where they live, have some adventure, go where I don't know and I'm not known, it'll clear my head, reset, I'll think new thoughts, break out of the loops I've been stuck in.
Another dispatch, posted a day later:
This was the most intense fog I'd seen. A thick all encompassing blanket. I figured that by the time I'd finished breakfast at the Pancake House in Liberal (top three pancakes I've ever had) the sun would burn through, but it didn't.
I left Liberal with a full stomach, and with gratitude for my hosts at Southwind. But since I came in at night and left in a fog, I had no idea what the town really looked like.
This is Beto O'Rourke's navel-gazing, self-involved, rollout of a possible rollout of a possible presidential campaign. Oprah Winfrey's couch is next.
This could never, ever be a woman.
A lot of things could be said about the privilege of wealthy white women -- they can eaisly get away with not working much. But older white dudes from a certain background seem to have limitless credibility and respect lauded on them.

And that certain background is one of sucking up to the right rich people and having a proven background of loyality to the bluebloods.
