I am guessing it became like manastones were if a mage didn't have a focus item they were seen as sub par. Sol-Ro was added later so there was a period in time were the staffs were the only thing in the game. It does seem stupid but I bet they had a lot of upset mages to appease.

Again, the only site which is somewhat specific to how the focus effects work shows a clear difference between the sol ro items and the raid focus items.

If there is a difference it is that the Sol ro focus items only increase stats/hp of each pet to the stats/hp of the pet above them with no extra increases to damage and no hp increase for earth pet. The raid focus items increase ALL pets hp add +1 level to pet and add +2 attack(unsure what that means)
I am basing this from: http://www.magecompendium.com/pets-f...s-library.html

That is about what I got from it too, though I assume the +2 attack would be +2 max damage, rather than the +5 that both focus items are doing at the moment.

I have been searching here but perhaps we can just make a post asking.

Yeah if you look through all those allakhazam threads you will find dozens of people claiming the staff focus effects only work on 50+, usually immediately followed by someone correcting them. I think the fact that the items were all released pre-kunark is evidence enough that they work on the level 49 pet spells.

I thought that Sol Ro focus items = +1 level , Staves are +2 and Sol Ro focus items work up until PET LEVEL 44, which means it buffs the magician level 49 SPELL.
Staves buff all pets after level 44 and sol ro focus items do not... (basically doesnt matter until Kunark) This is how it was on live as i had the staff off innoruuk and remember the mechanics quite well.

^This makes a lot of sense to me. Do you remember any old mage sites where stuff like that may be discussed?
