Whatever happened to having to face targets for offensive spells?

Was this changed during velious or something? Way back in the day I remember that offensive spells required you to have the target in front of your vision, with about a 90 degree arc being "your front". Beneficial spells did not have this penalty, however.

I remember my druid friend ktiing in karanas during classic and never needed to. Would cast, run, and literally count the seconds out loud to know when he could stop to cast. Never turned around.

Theyturned, trust me. =) You could still start casting without "seeing" the target but you had to have "view" of it before the spell finished. So they prolly spun around midcast and spun back to keep going.

As someone who plays casters almost exclusively, I'm not sure i want the old school back. Heh. Just like i don't want that "staring through a peephole" UI back either.

I played during the open beta and on release and having to face your target was never a thing as far as I know.

I actually thought this was some "titanium client thing". I totally expected someone to tell me such after I posted. Really surprised that's not the case.
