The premise of eq requires at least a year+ of commitment to a gameworld, and not a gameworld designed in 40 minute chunks, or instanced or buyable for your coinvenience: it has to be a competitive world, too. This is the flip side of the coolness of a truly persistent, shared online world. It requires people to inhabit it. And there are not enough of us freaks. edit: this might be one of the geniuses of eve online: it is only one server, ie, one persistent world. As p99 proves, you can always fill one "instance" of an online world. But how to make that work as a game, and a business, is a big challenge.
