I had checked Reddit out for a while. Think I got to, well lemme see….about 6,500ish karma. Had like 5ish “followers” at one point, no idea how that happens…

My main gripe with Reddit, other than it being hardcore Left-leaning, was there was just TOO much mental illness and just….pure misery. Sooooo many people both guys and girls were so complete doom and gloom “no one is ever going to love me, I should just kill myself” Reddit had rules against talk about self harm but that rule was broken daily like thousands of times, never really enforced

And I work in mental health so I am pretty understanding. I tried to help some people and did some good, had some messaging me thanking me even months later. But it felt like work, and I’m like “I do this for my job already 40 hours a week, not doing it here”

So I stopped checking

Several people are prolly dead now.

Reddit working as intended.

Many social media sites are experiments. Especially now that A.I can comb the results of many interactions at once.

We are in a mouse maze. Dont worry, one day we will be promoted to rat maze!

Here is me pressing that "Sex Now" button while starving to death sitting next to the food one.

Worth it.

Honestly, there were probably about 5 different people over the course of my time checking there who not only said they were suicidal, but that they were going to end their life that day. Some even spelled out how in great detail

That shit is stressful to read. They’d have this button where you could request someone reach out to them but I’m guessing with all the talk about self harm and suicide I’m sure that feature was either inactive by now or bogged down

And with no identifiable information no way to request a welfare check, esp since some weren’t even in the USA

Were they all being edgy for the sake of attention? I hope so

Oh I also saw a few minors who were legitimately requesting adults to come pick them up and take them away from their living situation. No doubt it was probably bad, but the “help” they were going to recruit would likely be even worse

Also not fun to read

I was part of WinMX in early 2000's we had one known suicide that posted he was gonna do it. And did.

Kingkil posted all sorts of weird stuff. We all did.
It felt like an online mutual therapy session in a chatbox format at times.
20 - 50 in the room all cross posting and responding to anyone and everyone. Answering dumb trivia questions or ALL CAPS SPEWING OF MARYLIN MANSON LYRICS.

Free therapy with mp3s was peak 2000's.

Many others also yelled IMMA KILL MYSELF.
Out of all the wannabes there was only that one.

That was a difficult read with hindsight. Chatlogs are hilarious or sad as fuck. That one hit the feelz.

I get your "Also not a fun read" take. But you did good too so...
