Default a protector of growth

The mobs "a protector of growth" in the Plane of Growth are currently spawning too frequently.

Here is a list of our engages tonight. First the first engaged I only attacked one of the PoGs, which is why I don't have a time for two of them.

A protector of growth in 75sec, for 1768HP and your 24dps at 3/7/2014 15:48:53

A protector of growth in 76sec, for 1502HP and your 20dps at 3/7/2014 15:58:03
A protector of growth in 45sec, for 1308HP and your 29dps at 3/7/2014 15:59:21

A protector of growth in 75sec, for 1571HP and your 21dps at 3/7/2014 16:08:02
A protector of growth in 15sec, for 447HP and your 30dps at 3/7/2014 16:09:34

A protector of growth in 79sec, for 2668HP and your 34dps at 3/7/2014 16:17:58
A protector of growth in 93sec, for 2350HP and your 25dps at 3/7/2014 16:19:17

A protector of growth in 148sec, for 4118HP and your 28dps at 3/7/2014 16:28:03
A protector of growth in 82sec, for 1655HP and your 20dps at 3/7/2014 16:30:31

Currently it looks to me that the spawn time is around 10 minutes.

First off, they are on a 29 minute timer. Like clockwork. Have someone timing them, make sure you stop pulling in time to be ready to handle them.

A decent raid party can handle 2 at a time by having one group tank one while the rest of the raid takes out the other. That's worked much better for us than trying to kite them around.

They seem to be about 50/50 melee/druid mobs, but I've never seen one gate. However, they will try to run and like many mobs in SoV, they will occasionaly hit a pathing bug and unable to run they "port" back to their home spot.

IF this happens to you, camp out immediately. The pog will begin to summon your party one by one across the zone for some personal attention. Go to a chat room, give it a few minutes to heal up, then all log back in together and be ready to quickly grp up for the fight.

these things are 54-56 and go after anyone that is kos, there spawn rate is approx 24min, and two spawn at a time and two spawn max
I think the third post has dubious level information, but does attest to the longer spawn timer so I included it. It seems as though none of them really agree on an exact timer, but are all in the same general range.

Edit - More evidence:

Protectors of Growth are badass mofo fauns. They spawn solo or in a pair every 26min. They don't seem to be mezzable or rootable, and they are zonewide aggro.

If you're on your butt when they come to play, you're going to need to be rushed to a hospital to have your bum stitched back up. I never saw a caster get smacked down so fast, died the moment the Protectors got to the camp.

Hope that helps Harpax

Once I was summoned by protectors to their spawn spot:

it is on top of a hill about 2000, -1000 <give or take a few thousands>

they spawn and despawn about every 20 minutes .. if nothing to attack they despawn

aggro on anything in zone which is why you want to warn other groups if you have damaged a pog - it can go on a summoning rampage if not dealt with.

Here's some more stuff.

A well written PoG guide from April 2001: http://www.cascadeaccess.com/~locnar...s_PoGguide.htm
Quote:
In order to succeed in the Plane of Growth, you must always be cautious of the protectors of growth, also known as PoGs. They have a constant spawn time of about 23-25 minutes (varies) and will agro a person who is NON-INVIS and KOS in the zone from anywhere. It will usually take half a minute for a PoG to travel across the zone to the zone-in. The best way to usually deal with these mobs are to have two or three people time them with stopwatchs and either...
1. Have a level 60 enchanter charm one of them. Once the charm breaks, have the enchanter kite it around.
2. Have the bard puller agro them when they spawn and then have the chain puller agro one off. The bard will kite the other around.
I usually prefer the former.
Being able to deal with the protectors is vital. So you know, the protectors are unmezzable and are about level 53-55.
Monkly Business post about raid mob respawn times from August 2001: http://www.monkly-business.net/forum...ead.php?t=8845
There's also a Steel Warriors post from 2003 that is pretty much a cut and past of the MB post so I won't include it.

A poorly written PoG guide from August 2001: http://www.angelfire.com/freak/eqjon...wth/pog_oc.htm
Quote:
After PoG's are killed u can proceed pulling "safely" to ur camp spot for about 20-25 mins(can't remember time excactly) until PoG's spawn again and come running to ya.
I vote for 25 minutes. Unless we find a post describing someone sitting at their spawn point with track up or running ShowEQ, most of these are going to be people seeing what time the PoG's showed back up in camp after respawning and running across some portion of the zone. I would remember better from live but when raiding growth we tended to just put a bard on perma-PoG-kite duty and get on with killing worthwhile things.

I believe the Protectors of Growth were on a very short timer to begin with when Velious went live. I remember them being an absolute nightmare to deal with. I also remember them being patched to a more relaxed respawn timer. However I have no proof of this, I'm just running off memory, it was a very long time ago!

Any more information on this? Not only do they see invis currently, they also see through feign death. There's nothing you can do to escape their aggro.

Might be accurate, I'm not sure. I just remember killing them every once and awhile.

Also, they run a bit faster than I remember. They're almost as fast as Selos bards. I'm pretty sure that needs to be toned down a bit, but it's pretty hard to get "proof" of how fast a mob should run.

They definitely should not be aggroing anyone who is invis (and FD should stop them from attacking you, though iirc they should never get reset by FD) - zoning in invis to PoG was always safe in era on live and running around most of the zone invis was safe as well. It was just if your invis dropped you were screwed if PoGs weren't already engaged.

From the good guide I linked before:
Quote:
None of the mobs in this zone see invis EXCEPT for the four giant treants, the quest NPCs, agitated forest spirits, and the treants near Tunare's tree (and Prince Thirnig and Tunare, obviously).
I'll go mess around with this soon to check PoG behavior.

The way this is written is if you are non-invised in the zone, they aggro you. It's not just 'seeing' you uninvised.

Should be working, but here is the perl I wrote for it for those curious.

Quote:
#nilbog
#pog aggro zonewide

sub EVENT_SPAWN {
quest::settimer("hater",30);
}

sub EVENT_TIMER {
if ($timer eq "hater")
{
my @entitysnapshot = $entity_list->GetClientList();
foreach $entity (@entitysnapshot)
{
my $facc = $entity->GetModCharacterFactionLevel(263); #protectorsofgrowth
if ($facc < -699)
{
unless (($entity->IsInvisible($entity)) || ($entity->GetGM()))
{
$npc->AddToHateList($entity,1);
}
}
}
}
}
