Default Cleric Armor from Ro Temple

I'm a 35 cleric still stuck in many pieces of bronze armor, and I need upgrades. I was thinking the Temple of Sol Ro has a quest line which could be nice. The shield of the devout, and certain armor pieces of the priest set seem nice. The problem is, Plat bars are ridiculously expensive to me at 100p a piece and I'll need a few of them. I'm not too worried about finding people to take and deal hits for me while I heal them against the mobs, but the money isn't something I have tons of the way I see some lower lvl people flaunting such high lvl gear.

Should I bother with the quests or are there cheaper alternatives that work for 1k plat?

Which pieces were you after? I'll check my bank in a couple of hours when I get to work to see what I have. I don't have the shield, but you can have the others.

The shield, which I'm most interested in, is the only No Drop piece. That's why I'm wondering if it's worth the time and cost or if I could get a better shield by auction for less money.

Honestly, for 200pp (cost of plat), the shield is a steal. At 35 I assume you're spending some time in MM. Keep the garg eyes and sell them for 10pp each to vendors, shouldn't take you long to get 200pp together.

The shield has HP and Mana on it, however it has no wisdom. A charred guardian shield can be had for 150-175 and has 9 wis on it.

I would only get the pieces with wisdom on them. Bracers are nice for sure. But you don't need the +dex pieces and whatnot.

It always seemed to me like the cleric and shaman Sol Ro armors were Ill conceived to begin with.

+1 for charred guardian shield. I would be sure to stack my AC as much we possible as a cleric but not at the expense of wisdom and mana.

Depending on race another option is to make your own. I did this on my Iksar shaman...it isn't hard to get smithing over 200 of you prepare for it well and some of the cultural armor is pretty good. This is now feasible for all races since imbuing metal isn't costing blue diamonds anymore. Incidentally my RZ imbued ogre war plate is worth a lot less now lol.

So I got the Charred Shield. 9 wisdom adds 58 mana (6.5 per wis?) Is that worth more than the extra 5 Str/AC and 25 HP that the other shield would add?

The two items are roughly equal quality, with the Charred shield being preferred if you group with decent players and don't get hit much. Note also that returns from Wisdom will improve as you continue leveling, improving the Charred shield's relative worth, plus you can sell it and get most/all of your cash back once you upgrade it again, while the other shield would rot away in your bank.

If you're grouped, you probably won't melee at all and you also should be getting hit much so AC isn't that big of deal.

At lower levels, most times, it's better to pick up mana gear over straight wisdom.

Here are some low cost recommendations (most are between 30-300pp each) and all very commonly are up for sale in East Commons.

Primary & Secondary:

You already know about the charred guardian shield for 250pp which is decent. Here's some other items.

For 50-150pp each, you could get two of these (they aren't lore) which would give you 60 hitpoints and 100 mana.
http://wiki.project1999.com/Platinum_Dragon_Totem

If you wanted a weapon with mana or wis on it, you can get one of these for about 200pp and it has 60 mana on it which is equivalent to about 10 wis at your level.
http://wiki.project1999.com/Rod_of_Oblations

If you're around the commons, do a /who all kithicor. If you see a lot of high level players in the zone they are probably killing dark elves for the rogue epic. Run along the wall to the rivervale entrance and ask if you can loot one of the no drop +wis weapons that are usually left to rot such as the +7 wis

Arms: 10 hitpoints and 25 mana for about 100-150pp
http://wiki.project1999.com/Embroidered_Black_Sleeves

11 AC, 3 Wis and 20 hitpoints for about 300pp (not usable by dwarf/gnome/halfling)

Back:
35 mana for about 250pp
http://wiki.project1999.com/Onyx_Drakescale_Cloak

(compare to the normal +4 wis mammoth hide cloak which goes for 500-600 and gives you less mana)

Chest:

AC 13 Wis +4 for 100-150pp

or 20 mana for 200-250pp (I'd go with the crystal lined slippers)
http://wiki.project1999.com/Wolf_Fur_Slippers

+2 wis for 50pp (no dwf/hfl/gnm)
http://wiki.project1999.com/Burynai_Hide_Boots

Fingers:

+6 wis for 125-150pp each
http://wiki.project1999.com/Platinum_Jasper_Ring

Compare to Velium Jasper which is only 1 more wis but are 400pp each
http://wiki.project1999.com/Velium_Jasper_Ring

I always liked these for my starter twinks. +30 hitpoints +20 mana for about 100-125pp each.

+2 wis gloves for 15-30pp

some decent advice here, but I'd add that the quests themselves are fun and take you to all sorts of interesting places that people never go to. A full set looks pretty dope, too.

Also, I don't think your gear matters all that much, aside from jboots.
