A Lesson In Humility, Or: Wizarding 101

Dawn.

My weary eyes scan the horizon. It has been a long night of hunting these wretched creatures, and my vision grows blurry. I came here earlier in my youth, much earlier. Three circles ago, when I had reached the 20th season. The elders had forbade approaching these dangerous creatures any earlier than that.

And then, paydirt: across the terrain, I spot my target. I am the hunt, and it is the hunted. It is a crag spider, and it shall be mine. I conjure a powerful firebolt and let it release.

I have defeated my prey, and now I shall reap the rewards. I begin to loot all of the many spider silks my arachnid friend has to offer, when suddenly:

Perplexed, I look around, yet I see nobody. I see no adventurers. I use my elite hacker skills taught by the wisest elders, back home in my Neriak Beginning Internet Skills Class in the Library, top floor of the third gate.

My secret admirer is definitely in the zone, but nowhere to be found. I look around once more, when I feel obliged to reply:

My secret admirer, although still hidden to the naked eye, has accused me of picking off his precious target. His desire. His everything. Being the friendly dark elf that I was raised to be, I give him some sound advice:

Even when I came here at level 20 I got a lot of resists and had to camp out multiple spiders... at level 18 even if you manage to find an even con I would be shocked if you could take it. im not being mean just honest here. '

And honest I was. I did indeed have my trial by fire. Upon entering this battleground in my 20th circle, even then, one might say it 'twas too early. I suffered several crippling defeats. These hairy legged beings are quite resistant to all schools of magicks, and more than once I was forced to flee from the fight!

At this juncture, my secret admirer, he presents himself. He is tall, handsome, and of dark skin. He is clothed in a crisp, white robe. He is an Erudite, the very wise men from a far off land that I have heard of, and he is not going to listen to my advice.

My secret admirer and I, we hunt the spiders within close distance of each other. After all, there are plenty to go around! I engage battle with another hairy legged fiend, while my secret admirer, he must have located the spider he was after: because he begins the battle!

The battle wages on, each of us contending with our respective arachnid. I am safely laying mine down, but I continue to watch Vikron's struggle from a safe range.

I am distracted. My loot whore tendencies have me plundering my crag spider's corpse the moment it bites the dust. I am distracted, yet out of the corner of my eye:
My secret admirer, my tall, dark, handsome cohort, he is far too close to the spidey. I watch as he stumbles backwards, that tell-tale sign of a character retreating, low on health. He has rooted the spider, but it is not looking good.

And then, his root breaks.
