Default Root...why is it garbage?

Wiki says mob is 22 (little fisherman chick on OOT island)

I'm 24 sham.

Opened with malo (malaise) > walking sleep > then this occured...couldn't even dot once.

I'd root, move out of melee. It would break immediately, rinse repeat. Couldn't even cast anything else. She was blue (22) she spawns 22-24 (I was 24 on first pull) I died and went back and 23 and she's still blue.

the fuck?

Root is garbage because it's unreliable. Server ticks happen very 6 seconds and root breaks are checked every server tick. So you could land your root 0.1 second before a server tick and it could break on that server tick. However if you are able to land root and it doesn't break instantly,. The -mr (malo) should help with the break checks.

And then sometimes the server just gives you the middle finger and says haha your spell was interrupted fk you hope you died this is p99 hardcore classic everquest bitch, haynar and nilbog say hello, to your corpse! *breaths deeply*

I've leveled a shaman, I feel your pain. Just gotta roll with the punches and try not to make threads like this. You may draw unwanted attention from negative unhelpful people.
If you think there is a bug, post it in the bug section where they can't flame you. just saying,. Good luck!

It could be nothing, but as a habit if I find root resisting I'll target myself and retarget the mob.

It's a product of your low level and mobs level compared to yours. When you play at low levels the range of monsters giving decent exp is small, typically 4-5 levels and anything lower is green. As you get higher this range expands and when you try to land spells on the lower range it is much more likely to succeed. At lvl 60 you would run into the exact same problem trying to root something lvl 58. It might land but it would be unreliable without malo and tash.

So basically at 55 because I can kill a blue 45 that's and because he's 10 levels lower root will almost always last, but because i'm stuck to a 4 level range ATM there's a much higher chance (literally) that root breaks every tick. That's crazy.

Try killing things at the lower end of the blue spectrum for whatever your level is and you'll find a much easier time.

Level 10+:
<.66: Green, with only high green giving XP
>.66 and <.73ish: Light blue
>.73 and <.9999999: Dark blue
Same level: White
Level + 1 and +2: Yellow
> Level + 2: Red

Until 15, Blue is the 2 levels under you.
From 15-24, Blue is the 4 levels under you.
From 25-34, Blue is the 5 levels under you.
From 35-44, Blue is the 7 levels under you.
From 45-54, Blue is the 9 levels under you.
From 55-60, Blue is the 15 levels under you.

????? this right? I've never seen a light blue but this is the info I found on it concerning p99.

All of this is extremely confusing considering the popular 'evil shaman guide' 'how to make money while leveling' etc guides will explicitly tell you sham, necro, enc, etc can start for example at sisters in OOT at 24. They are yellow at 24. What normal level 24 person is killing two yellow mobs at once? It's possible with 0 resists and root landing a decent amount of time, but it strictly does not. Especially not reliably enough to 'camp' the spot.

And before I see that 'git gud' garbage. I'm doing exactly what's expected. Open with malo > root > dot > dot > nuke }{ even on a mob 3~ levels below me (with malo on) we're talking an average of 2 resists per kill. 4 on a bad kill, 0 on a good. That's 50-65% mana per kill. That's with 1200 mana. Are people operating at 1500 mana with fungi's and clickies at level 20 or something? I don't get it.

Green part looks right, Blue wrong (do math over).

In terms of leveling, I can't see any reason to target yellows for leveling purposes unless you're in a group. Solo you'll almost always want to target dark blue mobs for the reasons you listed.

And then there is just the unlucky bounce of the RNG.

My exp night tends to end with a root break, charm break, and inevitable add all at once. Time to do something less stressful.
