This is the model these games seem to use. They then charge something on the side that earns more over time than a monthly fee, like an adult would have for other adults.

I want pantheon to do really well, I want to enjoy the story vicariously

but I do not want to dump hours or $$ of my life into it

I feel like the game took a swing in the wrong direction [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] the backbone is good, but the gameplay is going to shadow wow. There's going to be way to much flare (giant burning swords and pauldrons of floating skulls).

I hope they refrain from the over the top wow antics, but I am sure there will be some. It's more about the core complex play and the culture for me.

It's been so long I am not really expecting it to happen, but if it does, cool. All the pre-alpha looks were not impressive, but I understand that these are just unpolished conceptual things.

At the end of the day, it is very difficult to develop a product you actually want to sell without falling into the common tropes of WoW-based MMOs. So many high-concept games straight-up failed trying to be different.

Catering to a tiny, but dedicated fanbase like this crowd? You better have an extra ace up your sleeve or your product will not fare well at all.
