Increase vendor prices for classic loot

I dunno why some loot vendors for a lot and other loot doesnt. Like they'll give you 4p for an fbss and like 90p for some lvl30ish kunark or velious droppable.

how do they determine what you get? Is it calculated based on some attribute of the loot anything or were vendor payouts just hard set to specific values by a dev? I know higher cha gets you a bit more, but who decides the baseline value in the first place?

I read somewhere (old everlore etc) some devs made some loot (and XP) worth alot to make lvling easier to test. Time constraints made it difficult to re price stuff cuz pressured to develop new stuff. Game became bigger faster than they imagined.
Dev tools werent real flash so they had to hand change stuff. Or words to that effect.

Is it true that very early on mobs weren’t dropping fine steel [weapons] but [weapons] that are similar to ones bought of NPCs?

It's far from lucrative, but you can conceivably make 1000p in a day of playing by just killing bears and wisps for HQ skins and lightstones. That's pretty much how I earned all of my plat to buy all of my stuff. skins sell for 25p, lstones for 3p, and gstones for 15p.

Iirc Jimjam made his nest egg soloing wisps until 17 and then turning in all the lightstones. Between that and a 1/3 share of a bracer of hidden I was able to buy a full set of vendor plate.
