No points for Mercedes, 5 different teams in the top 5, Checo, Vettel, Gasly podium.

as a layman here it looks like the fastest driver lost because of a random malfunction so doesn't look like skill is a factor with this sport?

Pirelli estimated 40 laps on hard tyres.

Stroll's left rear failed w/ 31 laps on them.

Verstappen, the clear race leader, left rear tyre failed with 6 laps to go (33 on the tyres) and he went into the wall at 200 mph.

They red-flagged, standing restart, Checo was in front. Hamilton's brake balance was out of whack (full heavy to the fronts) and he blew the first turn going for an inside pass.
