![]() Aww man you had a good stretch of sobriety going, keep it going
What is that on the left, edibles? I never understood the appeal of nicotine. Smoke is poison but I tried those Zins that you put on your gums like chew, a co-worker gave me one. I got lightheaded and nauseas. Maybe I swallowed too much but man that experience sucked. Shit I was able to eat 2 grams of mushrooms and not get as sick as I did with that Zin… Hey if I’m too late on convincing you to not indulge…keep in mind that your stretch of sobriety should lessen cravings, and you haven’t built back a dependency yet. So if you decide to stop again, it should be far easier to do than last time, assuming you do it right away, before your body gets re-hooked

![]() Speaking of S/A, today at work had really odd requests
First was this very pretty naive 21yr old Native girl who was requesting to go to detox. She had all her belongings with her in two bags, one of which was too heavy for her to carry. So I asked what she needed detox for…she says marijuana and alcohol. I’m thinking well you can go ahead and drop the marijuana off that list, they’re going to laugh at you at the detox place if you go in for that. So how much alcohol? She says her usage tends to be 2 shots, twice a week. But she says it’s those 99 Bananas shots, which are strong. I told her I know what those are, but in my head I’m thinking WTF, I have friends who regularly drink more than that. You’re native and that’s how little you drink? But I didn’t say any of that She wanted to go to a sober living from there, she said she had just gotten kicked out of one that day. I’m wondering HTF a sober living even accepted her with that usage pattern, they have limited space, but instead I asked what she got kicked out for. She said smoking pot there. I’m like yea, well, it’s a sober living, they are going to want you to be sober… Then I start getting worried about her predicament. She had just left the reservation, had never been to my huge sprawling city of millions until she went to that sober living, where she blew it there right away. She was going to be turned out of detox after a few hours and facing being homeless for the first time with a bag of her stuff that she can’t even carry without my help. She seemed really slow/dumb and suggestible, everything I mentioned she was like “yea that sounds great!” So I’m wondering is she even her own guardian? She says her parents are supportive so I’m like “can I have permission to call your parents” So I take her to detox and then am trying to get the staff away privately so I can explain her vulnerability and get her transferred from detox to a mental health place she can stay for at least 1, possibly a few nights. But she keeps hovering to where I can’t tell the detox staff how she seems to be intellectually deficient (ID) without offending her. But luckily she lets them know herself when they ask her how she got 5 hours from the reservation to here. She says she took an uber. The detox staff was like wow that musta been expensive. And she was like “yeah it was like $35”. And I’m looking at the detox staff like see what I mean? Don’t turn this girl out on the street Then I call her parents on the res and they’re worried and like we can’t afford the gas to come get her for like a week. And I’m like ok well this is the spot she’s in and there’s nothing more I can do for her. I didnt want to tell them what to do but I wanted to be like “hey your daughter is going to have all her stuff stolen off her or far, FAR worse in less than a week on the streets, so maybe you should start begging money or doing whatever odd jobs you can to get that gas money to save your fucking daughter…” Anyway, I said a prayer for her after and told the staff to try to get her to another sober living

And she was like “I stay inside alone”. And I’m like ok doing what, and she’s spending way longer trying to think of something than I expected. Normally with someone smarter than her I usually assume this means they are trying to think of something more acceptable to say than what they are really doing, but I also assumed the pauses for her just could be cognitive… So I offer, “anything creative, like art, or writing, or crafts” and she says “oh, drawing!” Oh ok. Drawing what? She says “cars!” I’m like “oh cool! Do you have a dream car, if you had unlimited money?” And she’s like “a Toyolla? I mean Toyota, Camry!” And I’m like “oh really a Camry, if you have unlimited money?” And she said “oh the sporty version though” And then a bit after that convo ended I saw in the rear view that she had her brow furrowed and was furiously typing on her phone. So I’m thinking “ok good, hopefully she’s telling family what’s going on” And then she waits until I’m stopped, and extends her arm and goes “see!” And she was searching for a pic of the Camry, which she shows And I’m like “ohhh! Yea, definitely sporty!” And I’m thinking ok I woulda gone with the McLaren but that’s fine. Maybe it’s the only car she knows

![]() Yeah that young lady is intellectually deficient for sure. Sounds like she has been heavily sheltered her whole life and didn't grow up going to school with alot of peer influence
no idea how you fix that because she'll get eaten alive at a regular college

The res was up in the remote north edge of the state 5-6 hours away. So no there was no way I am allowed to go that far, nor did I have the fundage to cashapp her parents money or nothing. I will occasionally spend money on clients even though it’s not technically allowed (it’s the poorest clients who are least likely to rat anyway). Like I bought this young Hispanic homeless gal client who had no shoes and was crying with bloody feet every step some soft sandals at target. Ran me freakin $15 and they were the cheapest ones. There was just no damn dollar stores around and it was past the end of my shift And the Native American girl WAS her own guardian, her parents confirmed it. Which means she didn’t get legal DDD status as a kid which means it’s nigh-impossible to get it now. So there goes support like group homes. Not like she would likely stay in one anyway. Generally the lower functioning a person is cognitively, the more likely they are to be ok with a simpler life. A girl on the smart side of dumb is not going to be content with group home life, and group homes can’t and won’t try to detain someone who is constantly trying to leave. Nor do the have the capability to easily round them up when they do So this gal is a bad spot, IQ is one of if not the biggest predictors of success or failure in life. And she is like a female Forest Gump. Or a Native version of that girl from Mean Girls, forget the name. But without the plot armor
