Default Soloing Siren's Grotto Mechanics

So, I've been soloing mermaids in SG the past day going for my neriad shawl. Although an incredibly tough zone, I've been able to make things work by taking advantage of the in/out of water aggro mechanics.

A few times though, it seems those mechanics just went out the window and I got insta-killed lol. Twice this evening, I was out of the water on the ledge and had my mermaids fighting down below. One time, my pet broke and I was double backstabbed on the ledge out of water... instadeath. I assume I must of been too close to the water or something, but the pet literally warped to me to kill me.

A second time, I had 2 fighting and a mistress pather came thru the wall and added into the fight. I broke my pet manually to let them all reset and expected them to lose aggro on me like they do every other fight when I'm out of water. Instead, I was summoned and quadded by my VoGed pet and the 2 merbs.

I'm mostly curious how the aggro mechanic works exactly and why in those two situations did I get aggro even though out of water. 95% of the fights, when i break pet, it just goes un aggro and paths back. Those times though, it said fuck it.

Was I just unfortunate or is there a part of that mechanic I'm missing?

Thanks for the help.

In the first case it sounds like your pet and the mob were too close to you and maybe at the water surface? If so, then yeah that will happen. Keep your pet guarded away from you and the water surface. In the second case, it just seems to be a fact you need to deal with. Don’t have more than one mob actively engaged on you pet (especially not more than one below 97% health) or you run a lot higher risk of getting summoned on pet breaks

And make the chardok 2.0 mobs summon while you’re at it. Thanks!

Disagree.

Like quantum mechanics and spooky action, these things make the universe of norrath real.

Not a Disneyland, like Westworld is, designed to have every story play out exactly the same.

I’ve found it to be totally random. Sometimes you just get summoned into the water and die regardless of what you do. It usually isn’t too bad to find a cleric passing through.

I've found it completely random through my experiences. I Chalked up to the certainty of death in SG that comes with time.

To avoid the pather you need to fight more in the middle. If you try to do any fiddling with the mob after you break your pet make sure it's at 100% of you for sure will be summoned.

The mobs don't INSTANTLY deaggro, which means that sometimes their summon is ready to fire off in that brief moment when charm drops but before the in/out water shenanigans resets them.

I.e. if one of the mobs is below 97%, hasn't used its summon in the last 10 seconds, and has a melee swing ready to go (summons don't seem to fire, ime, when all the mob's melee attacks are on swing timers, which you can see easily on a 75% slowed mob)... you might still get summoned down into the water even if you were up on dry land.
