Obliged = thankful - Here's your coffe sir. - "Much obliged, thank you!" Obligated = mandatory - "He was obligated to do the dishes for 3 weeks" Thank me later. | ||

Okay I'm feeling you about the thankfulness thing. but is it grammatically incorrect then to say something like :
"I felt obliged at least to give him head because he bought such a nice dinner and is obviously not a man of means" | ||

yeah, because you are implying that you feel indebted because the cost to him was greater than the benefit to you. to resolve the transaction more equitably, you feel you need help offset some of the cost to him. now, actually doing this only makes sense if the cost to you of giving head is substantially lower than the value of the meal.
