Miscellaneous: Bard Skyshrine Armor - Name / Stats

After happening upon a random comment on Allakhazam, it looks somewhat likely that the Skyshrine armor for Bards was originally called Highsun armor.
From what I've read, the armor pieces were changed to include the Vah Shir race and at that point the name was also changed to Twilight.

Just being nosey, but why did they change the name? Were there other forces at work here or did they just not like the name?

Prolly had something to do with the fact that it didnt list Vah on the highsun, so they renamed it Twilight and added Vah shir.

It seems Highsun was the pre-Luclin version of Twilight armor? If anyone else remembers specifics or has more concrete information, please add below.
Hoping this means no more armor that reminds people of those crap vampire movies.

Interestingly the early April '01 entry for the archived Allakhazam site displays both boots at the same time. As late as September 2001, at least, both sets of arms are still displayed together in the database. The earliest pictures of Twilight armor displays no Vah Shir race option. All of the few comments for Highsun boots are from late March. I could find no comments about Twilight pieces from earlier than April 2001, so the name change presumably took place no later than early April, and possibly earlier given the general delays involved with stuff being submitted and appearing on Allakhazam. Barring something more concrete I surmise that the name change occurred as part of the general modifications and upgrades to Velious loot which was ongoing during that period.

Agreed, but then some of the item images on Alla seem questionable, for example...

...doesn't list VAH on a Luclin item and it's a classic UI which, afaik, had been phased out in Velious altogether. However, the comments suggest that Luclin's release was a mess all around, items included.

Anyhow I gotta rant.

No songs work on Luclin launch day.
No AE songs work still

Vah Shir Illusion mask doesn't have human listed
This doesn't have Vah Shir listed.

They remove AE to Group-only on the stackable haste songs

They need to do more testing in general.. but from now on they should pay special attention to bards since they ***** something up for us almost every patch.

What i would like to know is the added percentage to songs, and what mob drops this flute. By the way, kitties can't use Di'Zok Wristsnapper either, *cackle*

...so the devs simply forgot to add certain races to certain Luclin items.

Got mine tonight, and yes, It's plate and Vah Shir (VAH)useable as well as the rest of the Twilight armor, the pic must be older than Luclin.

Also the helm you get won't have a graphic, in order to get the graphic to appear you must go to Supreme Laochsmith Psonn, who you can find .. all the way up the Tower past the

Quest Armor room .. its a trip even with Selo's.

He will tell you ..."Using my obviously superior skills I can customize a plate helm from the Shrine to suit a (Your Class) such as yourself. Give me your Blood Lord's Crown, Scaled

Knight's Helm, Helm of Twilight, Akkirus' Crown of the Risen, Cowl of Mortality, Frostreaver's Velium Crown, Crown of the Kromzek Kings, or Crown of the Myrmidon and I shall

make you a new helm that will better hise and protect your unscaled features."

No tricks, But you do need MAX ALLY faction to do these quests.

Does anyone know if these are vah shir wearable? I want to start a kitty bard but would like to have this armor to look forward too.


Also, according to a post on Allakhazam, Highsun armor was yellow instead of Twilight's grey(?) and had inferior stats.

The hardest quest are the skyshrine quests which gives you Highsun Boots, Bracer, Helm, and Vambraces. There is also skyshrine quests for Twilight armor. I don't know which is better because there is no such thing as a highsun bp and no such thing as a twilight helm so maybe there is a connection between the two. Same set of armor different names? they come from the same place. I thought there was only one type of skyshrine armor per class. Hmmmmmm

The name of the bard Skyshrine armor was changed from Highsun to Twilight some months back. There is no quest for Highsun armor now. Only Twilight.

So one player is obviously incorrect in saying that there was no Highsun BP but he also says both types are available for bards.

Also, interesting to note, that Twilight Sea came out in Luclin zone with its own Twilight armor sets, except each had specific names and bard's was called Bravado's.

im a lvl 39 bard and people seriously dont ***** about bards not needing dex WE NEED DEX TO MAKE OUR SONGS BETTER this would be insane for a bard from lvl 1 to 45 then at 46 its plane armour and Singing steel and then at like 50 its questing for the Thurgadin kael and skyshrine armour Oh yes i got bp legs arms and helm of Thurgadin armou rand im almost finished with the Highsun armour woot!

This is something that we can change, but I had trouble finding actual links for the breastplate and legs.

I saw several mentions of the Helm, Boots, Bracer, and Vambraces. And that Highsun armor was originally a bright bright yellow guardian armor before it changed to Twilight.

This still needs more information for a timeline and detail.

When I search the Allakhazam archives for July 2001 (the earliest capture that seems to show Velious quest armor, the screenshots all seem to be from April 2001 though), I see no Highsun for Chest or Legs, as Nilbog mentioned, but I do see Twilight armor:

The screenshots don't feature Vahshir in the race list, so that theory seems to be out.

I'm not sure when or if Twilight replaced Highsun. But Twilight seemed to become available relatively early in Velious, maybe even from the start? Muddy issue.
