who cares about dps, woodsman staff looks like shit. dual wielding swords is the only respectable thing a ranger can do.

From a roleplaying sense, carrying a tree trunk around with you doesn't really fit the stealthy outdoorsman image, but I guess the min-maxers will beg to differ [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

It's a different, yet effective, type of subtlety.

What about wurmslayer + lamentation or lupine dagger?
Less damage cap annoyance, great ratios

Ws/lammy is a relic of a bygone era where we didn't understand the game. WS is a big slow MH only one hander, and lammy/lupine are low damage weapons with low delay.

Main hand is all about weapon speed. 1h weapons damage bonus doesn't scale with delay like 2handers do. And, especially in velious, you'll be hitting for minimum quite often, so the goal is to have the lowest delay possible so as to apply the damage bonus as often as possible. Because of this, WS doesn't make agreat MH weapon.

Furthermore, offhand swings have more to do with your DW skill then your offhand delay, so you generally want the highest base damage, or overall best ratio in your offhand. This makes lammy and lupine sub optimal choices for offhand.

Thanks for the explanation, makes sense with Velious and high level.
What about leveling up at the moment? Would you still recommend 2h over ws/lammy combo?
My ranger is in his 20's, and I'm not a big fan of damage caps with 2 handers.

Yeah, I'd still recommend it. WS it not bad leveling, because the damage bonus doesn't fully kick in until higher levels, but WS + a high damage offhander will be expensive.

Springwood stave is 300-500pp., .83 ratio. WS is 4k for .625 ratio, and then you factor in the cost of a good offhand(silken whip would be best bet most likely, and they're ~500pp i think, which isn't too bad)

Woodsman staff on its own will run ~6700pp, and will outdps anything but epics significantly.

If you don't like damage caps, you can stick with silver swiftblade, which is ~100pp, until lvl 30 and then go to springwood stave, and you won't notice much at all in the way of capping damage.
