At this point in the server's evolution, I think you're most likely to see smaller fights that pop up unexpectedly. For smaller fights, bard would probably be more survivable and more effective offensively than cleric. In 2v2 or other small-group PvP, it would be much better to have a killer class (like a rogue, wizard, SK, druid actually) than a healer/support like cleric or bard. I remember several encounters where we were cleric/shaman/monk or something versus rogue/SK/druid or something and we just couldn't get any work done and had to run or plug. Not enough raw damage, not enough burst damage to lock in the kill; the enemy could easily retreat and med up and return. I hypothesize clerics are most effective in mass PvP, like 10v10 and up. Thinking back to <Good Guys> versus <Empire>, there was at least one major mass fight where <Empire> kept their clerics hidden off in a corner away from the action, and had some players drag corpses to them for mid-fight resurrections - the "rez station." This strategy probably won them the fight. Cleric power. Then again, bards are also a huge asset in mass PvP; if your melees are zooming around and the enemy's aren't, you start to eat them up. Plus, bards can farm better than a cleric. Swarming for exp and loot, soloing named mobs, etc. This might make bard an easier first character than cleric. Quote:
• #1, use Remedy (the fastest heal). Rarely, use Celestial, but it can let your buddy die if the enemy has enough DPS. Never use Complete Heal during action (except in the rare case of healing up a tank during a lull to save mana). You're locked into that 10-second cast time, during which they can die, and you can't cast anything else even if they do die. • HIDE. Clerics are a squishy target, and a priority target. Don't be a target. Get altitude if possible. Remember that you can heal through walls or from the top of a building or from out of line-of-sight, so you can avoid being hit or cast upon. Also, consider staying farther from the action and tell your allies to run to YOU after sustaining damage, then they can get right back into the action. You can also remain on the other side of a zone line so every time allies zone away from the fray at low HP, you heal them up. • Again with the hiding. I've also been told to not even enter the fight area at first and rather hang back so the enemy thinks they're only up against the rest of your guys - then you start healing them or dispelling enemies. I have not had the self-control to do this and usually try too hard to make an immediate difference in the fight and then I die. • Buff first, and maintain buffs. One of the best ways a cleric can make a positive impact is to buff your team. If time and mana allow, consider applying 1-5 resist buffs first, then your best HP buff; this will help keep the HP buff from being dispelled. Your HP buffs are super important - about as important as SoW and Levitate. You can often double people's HP and make them way harder to kill. YOU take the initiative and ask people if they have room for an HP buff, and use GINA or an egg timer or your natural OCD and paranoia to keep those buffs on everyone. • Warn allies before buffing so they can prepare their buff slots (usually with a Spyglass). You can hail them 2+ times - that's Red slang for "incoming buff." BARD • Avoid soaking up damage. Bards are also priority targets, and really not that durable. You have to NOT get hit in the first place, and if you take any damage, run run away and heal up somehow before re-entering the fray. Scoot around the edges of combat, hitting groupmates with Selo's as much as possible, without dying. This is something I have yet to master. • which songs - Yeah, when outdoors, they mainly need Selo's. It's pretty hard to apply haste in combat, except indoors, where you'll get crushed anyway unless your side had the advantage. During lulls in the action, get hp/mana regen song going right away to take advantage of the opportunity. I have straight-up bounced certain nukes and DoTs by putting up a resist song (usually Elemental Rhythms or Purifying Rhythms) at just the right time. And our nigh-unresisitable chants, while NOT to be regarded as real DPS, can sometimes put enough pressure on an opposing player that they have to run or zone or stop to heal or at least get a little intimidated and slow down their attack, yielding the initiative. You won't get many kills, though. And as either bard and cleric: • YOU form the group. Do it habitually, before engaging in PvP. That way, you can invite other allies mid-fight. Beneficial bard songs only benefit their group, and clerics can use the group window to monitor HP and to target allies for healing (use F2-F6 and hit a heal spell - bingo). The formation of a group lets you do work. • You need Teamspeak to succeed in group PvP. Quote:

Not exactly literal, but that's the jist. There are certain players you talk about in-game, and theres certain players you shouldn't be comfortable speaking about in-game because they are out of your league. Should I cite a few examples? You seem slow on the uptake re; social dynamics.

Maybe this guy could afford a PC that can play an emulated 17 year old goblin town simulator if he wasn't too busy writing the fifth revision of the Felwithe Constitution on the forums of said goblin town simulator.
