Default Many ToV 'fire'-based AoEs were in fact Cold based (until mid 2001?)

I came across a mention of this in this EQClerics thread about resists in Velious, and went to check the Velious spdat data and sure enough, a lot of the ToV resist checks on fire-based AoEs were in fact cold based, at least from the Dec-2000 to April-2001 period for which I have spdat.eff's.

(My files here: https://github.com/dbsanfte/eq-archi...e/master/spdat)

The following were all Cold based but are set to Fire-based on P99:
  • Flame Jet (id 1494)
  • Rain of Molten Lava (id 1488)
  • Wave of Heat (id 1490)

EQClerics thread from May 2001 is here, where they mention checking the spdat.eff, so it must still have been this way then.

Couple things:

Hall of testing AE's like "Rain of Molten Lava" is a Cold Check in the spdat.

300+ resistances only seam to improve resist rates versus lure spells. 200 MR and I resist 95% of old style dragon fears. 200 MR and I resist 40% of new style dragon fears. The difference is lure. My theory is Lure just treats your resist as if it where lower, and removes the level check. There are different levels of lure, shown in the spdat by the -cha line. A -5 cha is a medium lure, some get as high as -9 cha. A -5 cha is would treat 200 MR as if it where 100 from my estimates. So I would recomend about 300 resistance vs any lure spell.

In VP 200 MR is very important against mobs like Druusk and Phara Dar. Druusk's AE will eat you alive if your not careful and have low resist. Phara Dar will stop you from casting at all if you have too low of MR.

But as a general rule I shoot for 200 of the given resist in VP, and its kept me alive quite well.

All the wurm AEs, and even flame jet, are cold save in ToV Rayne =P

Post date is given here in a separate capture as May 25th, 2001:

Now, Alunova in this thread on P99 mentions he was using a mid-2001 spdat.eff for these AoEs, and he gives out the spell lists in the thread, where they all have a Fire resist check:

https://www.project1999.com/forums/s...d.php?t=158195

So if P99 devs have access to the spdat.eff you guys can set the era rules accordingly to be Cold upon Velious release until mid-2001? (and also please share that spdat with me [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.])

Otherwise I am not sure if/when it was fixed to be Fire resist.
