PD robe for da win!
I'm tempted to try to farm a guardian robe sometime. Though I'm half-elf with no robe model, my guise will make it show up in DE form, which also sounds super cool.

i am thinking of wearing ccom for fashion, so human lack of night vision is a bit frustrating

not considering half elf because its female custom helm doesnt look good

Rangers do get infravision spell at 30 (eyes of the cat) ultravision at 56 (chill sight) if that makes a difference.

Fixed. Solid mask even without the ultravision.

Male wood elves with Tracker helm look like they have Downs syndrome.

Before I invest heavily (few hundred k) - aside from min/max stats perspective, which race you prefer?

To me, I see the following.

Human: No night vision. Can wear robe. Custom helm not unique (same as male).

Wood elf: Cannot wear robe. Slashing animation looks weak. Custom helm is good looking.
Mine is a wood Elf male - the robe thing wasn't on my radar when I created and remains unimportant to me. What was on my radar was the night blindness- to me, waiting 30 levels to see in the dark or having to wear particular items would be a chore. That said, only you know what is right for you! And the female custom helm IS awfully cool looking

Can't really go wrong either way IMHO.

Getting to level 30 is so easy nowadays. I wouldn’t roll a race based on such a short stretch. Focus on things you’ll appreciate when doing the long 51+ Grind imo where the real challenge starts and when you’ll figure out quickly how much you like your race.

That is a really valid point. If he's dropping a few hundred k on his ranger this isn't his first toon. My ranger was my first toon past 20ish and it took me a solid few months to get him into the 30s, if memory serves, but that will not be his situation at all.
