I may be wrong but I don't think the rares will start dropping until AFTER Kunark is unlocked and Kunark gets unlocked after the event is complete. Again I may be wrong on that assumption.

"event" in that sense would be items dropping then wouldn't it?

Event to open kunark - no removed item drops
Event completion and kunark open - removed item drops
End of the night - no more removed item drops

Define end of night? For some people end of night is 2am others is 10am lol
