It’s a treaty Russia signed with Ukraine (not too long before invading) so I just think it would be neat for the condom to be on the other cock: Ukraine will hold the nukes and ‘promise’ ‘not’ to invade.

Agreed MAD doesn’t seem to work. We’ve dodged a couple of nuclear apocalypse through fluke. WWI was meant to be impossible due to MAD treaties, but turns out flattening cities and wiping out many villages of men across many nations is palatable to those detached enough to be in charge.

I can’t really suggest an alternative though.

The ME in me says to not buy during the dip, because this isn't a dip it's a decline. I jsut dont see a way out of this hole we've dug ourselves into without trying to just keep going and see if there's an exit there.

I don’t think there is a solution, but the worst option would’ve been to allow Ukraine to fight hard with no weapons and still be subjugated / ethnically cleansed. This way has cost Russia dearly. If they had no nukes, maybe we could’ve stopped it, but we didn’t stop Georgia, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Crimea, etc

You can't have a treaty with Russia because then that would be taking Russia at it's word and you can't take Russia at its word.

The Russian word means nothing, their promises mean nothing, anything they say is a lie. Their leaders lie, their diplomats lie, everyone lies all the time. Yes, diplomacy involves deceit. Nations jostle for power and ulterior means are used. But in order for diplomacy to work, for agreement to be reached with some level of trust, the other party either needs to have no record, or one of some previous trust and cooperation. What Russia has is a giant rap sheet of lies stretching back a hundred years. They come to the bargaining table and they unfold this thing, and it's like a thousand pages of stuff they promised and lied about or never delivered.
