I've never played on Red before. What would my experience be?

Playing Red99 in it's current state is simply playing the RPG component in MMORPG.
Playing Blue99 is the both the MMO + RPG components in MMORPG.

Fact: Current Red99 is for drug addicts, loners and people who can't give up the pixels they attained over the years - these are undisputable facts.
