Default Inca Trail / Machu Picchu Video

hey folks,

Went on a real life quest to South America last month and hiked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Made this video with go pro footage from the hike. Not as cool as one of Kraddok's videos, but i figured why not post it here. Might pad my view numbers a bit [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Oh that’s absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing that! I’ve always wanted to do a thru hike of the Appalachian Trail or, more recently, the Pacific Crest Trail, and I think you added another to my list.

How did you handle the crazy altitudes?

Just used a go pro hero 6. Hold it in my hand without a handle or anything so i don't look too much like an ass while i'm filming. Fucking hate selfie sticks.

The hike cost about a grand in total. That included the 4 days hiking, permits, entry tickets to Machu Picchu, and food along the way. There's a whole army of porters (called chaskis) that carry the entire camp for you, so you just hike with a day back. Pretty sweet. And the good was pretty good too. There are cheaper groups, but not by a whole lot and you could tell the quality of their camps was not as good.

Altitude was pretty rough. Had been traveling around South America for about 3 weeks prior to doing this hike, so i wasn't too bad. But it's pretty damn high. Two people in my group had to turn back from altitude sickness, but that's because they were dumb and flew in from Maine with less than 24 hours before the hike started. Noobs. If you ever do it, give yourself as many days as possible at altitude before you start. Also go to a doctor and get a prescription for Diamox, which helps with altitude sickness a lot.

I'll be slowly but surely going through a bunch more footage from other parts of Peru, Bolivia, and Chile.

A coworker of mine just finished the PCT. Think it took her about 6 months.
