Just do faction camp at Kael zoneline in Wakening Lands until you get kindly then spend your plat on thurg plate MQ's. Skip the intermediary armor.

Do a spider group in Velks, you can loot crystal chitin armour. Also loot cobalt armour from Karnor's Castle and Old Seb.

If you're medium sized Jarsath Scale armour rots in KC, as that is somewhere you are likely to XP it is at least a free upgrade to banded, if not great.

Sentry and Guardian armour from sky shrine is also passable. Sometimes high levels will be soloing there and letting the armour rot.

You can get a group or two together to kill dragons in Western Wastes and loot some dragon hide armour. You can also turn in the great(er) dragons heads in Kael for some rather nice items once you have faction.

If you have access to any raids you can get indicolite armour from hate and berserker armour from growth.

The above is generally close enough to thurg armour that I'd skip buying MQs. Plate house and arena groups in thurg also let you get your own thurg armour if you think it's worth the gems. If you are going to be friends with dragons get a braver of benevolence.

i say just buy crystal chitin or cobalt pieces so you can sell them after u get upgrades

spending plat on thurg armor means they will be replaced eventually and you won't be able to liquidate no drops

Thurgadin armor, though not glamorous, is functional at the ToV raid level.
