I agree that Petrucci has some AMAZING emotion/feeling in his playing (thought lately DT albums make me cringe). Love the Petrucci and Rudess live album.

NO mention of Marty Friedman????

Even if you don't like his style of music, this guy can play, I love me some Andy Mckee......

First link is one that most people tend to be most impressed with, tho honestly Im burned out on it.
This guy blew my mind. Maybe I was just 'in the right mood' but Art of Motion is amazing.

Also: definitely not the best, but Kirk Hammett is seriously underrated IMO.

Since this thread seems to be open to just awesome guitar players and not who you think is best, Ill put in somebody I don't think has been mentioned.

Christopher Arp, especially because of his great use of odd time signatures and dissonance / odd keys and key changes. They wouldn't let him in Limp Biskit or however you spell that abonimation of a band because he was too good [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Look up "Imogen's Puzzle pt.2" (homage to this hilarious old game, I think) if you want to listen to something that doesn't do damage to the eardrums, but "Death, I" has a great intro some sweet transitions.

I also like Zappa as a guitarist and composer. Lots of other ones I think of are already mentioned.

Each one of these men *is* in fact technically talented, but that technical ability is the LEAST of what makes them great guitar players. Ah well, ignorance is bliss my friend, ignorance is bliss.
Nah I listened to them all and the first thought in my head was...

"I CANT MOSH TO THIS SHIT!"

It was soft, non-awesome music that just blends in with the paint on the wall, essentially the nascar of the music world. But I'm a knuckle-dragging neanderthal and the only music I like is loud, abrasive, chugging that sounds like rocks being smashed over pterodactyl's
