How does Dark Elf as a race stack up against alternatives?

DE looks the best and has the coolest looking city. Gnomes can see through walls, and once they get CotH in Kunark, can summon from zonein without needing shrink.

If you can level fast, roll gnome and get a guise from guk before nerf and you can be both. (assuming green character, if blue, out of luck)

Best Elves are Best Race. And they are blue. All other races are inferior because they are not Best Elves.

You'll loot a Guise like everyone else and end up a Dark Elf anyway, no?

But as most have said, race is not important for Magicians, all available races can do it. So choose your favorite FashionQuest is my advice.

As a former Halfling Druid tho, I'll say that racial Hide is nice. Safest AFK tool after FD. But it's just that, nice. No deal or break there. For example, if I start a druid on Green it would be Human.

You will do well as a Mage DE and Neriak is well placed. You have nektulos forest, EC, Befallen, Lava Storm, Najena, Sol A and Sol B, Kithikor, HHP, HHK nearby. Also later you can go to Guk and use Grobb as a base....Feerott can also be used as a base for Cazic Thule, Fear, Mountains Of Rathe for HG...Fear is def a lot later since it will not be out right away but yea...DE is very doable
