EQ Soundbite Easter Egg
I was just about to reply to some duder with a YT video link response to his silly statement: "I only play P99 because it's free." But you should always check media before sharing it on the interwebz, so I did.
I found an an EQ easter egg. Name that zone. The song was released March 30, 1999 (2 weeks after EQ) and the music video would have come a bit later. The Offspring = EQ fans? Maybe their sound guy. Or were sound libraries so limited in 1999 they happened to use the same one? Or just...巧合? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LH-i8IvYIcg

Without clicking your link, I'll point out that EQ used a lot of stock sound effects from generic sources. Hence it is not at all uncommon to hear various sound effects that were used in the game in all sorts of places.

I've definitely heard the quest turn-in fanfare in other things, although off the top of my head I can't think of any other instances of eq sounds in other media. That wind noise immediately jumps out as yup that's everquest to me. But yeah videogames in general in the 90s and early 2000's got a lot of sound from stock sources. Getting assets from stock is actually still kind of common. A lot of textures in modern games are just collages of actual photos of real world surfaces. They obviously manipulate them to an extent to make them seem original, but nobody is hand drawing a cobblestone or cracked cement texture anymore.

The Starcraft EMP sound effect occurs in The Matrix when they EMP the squiddies. I notice every time.
