Default Solo Paladin Attack Strategy

I figured I'd share the chain of commands I use when soloing as a Paladin.

This technique will mitigate as much damage as possible while keeping spell cooldowns in mind. For max DPS you can weapon swap, or you can be a bit lazier and just use a Fiery Defender.

Here is what I use:

Equip best DPS 2h ratio.
Yaulp (If necessary)
Auto Attack
Cast Holy Might
Strafe behind NPC > Switch to FD > Bash > Switch to DPS 2h
Cast Stun
Switch to Fiery Defender > Bash > Switch to DPS 2h
Switch to Fiery Defender > Bash
Repeat...

Bashing from behind combined with the stun spells will keep the mob stunned a majority of the time, which does cost mana... but less than Greater Healing to heal all of the damage you would take otherwise. You can use a Deepwater helm or BP to heal yourself during downtime.

Anyway, hope it works for you if you give it a shot.

Keep in mind most paladins don’t get the fiery defender. A lot of ND fanboys on these forums who will insist it’s not worth the effort.

Mad respect to you for obtaining the rare, fiery sword.

Crede is a bit autistic on this topic.

Why so mad?

While stunning and getting behind certainly does sound like the best method to keep fights as short as possible for paladins struggling to output damage, and is ideal for anything that casts... Without some outside buff for mana regen that sounds like a lot of recovery?

I was always under the impression the most efficient method for a solo Paladin was Jousting. Either by rooting and waiting for weapon delay when indoors or just running around in circles and not casting anything except possibly yaulp and whatever pre-fight buffs you think necessary. It will only slow your fights but should get you to bare minimum downtime between solo fights.

For RP factor and 2hand bash its worth it - but in terms of slapping on a 10-12k lance at 55 and using a better ratio weapon before 55...say a 10k reaver it isnt really worth it.

Currently saving for a Narandi lance myself and I have the FD.

As a Paladin who prefers a larger mana pool I love the FD for that factor too.

For fashion quest Paladins win that: AoN + FD or ND wins 100%

Love NL stats, but my god does that awkwardly sized weapon look awful. FD or bust.

Thanks for sharing this. I don’t necessarily agree with it as a general approach (might work great in certain instances though). I’m also exceptionally lazy and don’t hot-swap gear mid fight.

For me it’s a combo of straight tanking with select spells cast, tank/root/helm-heal, or root-joust-healing(as needed). In order of quickest to slowest kill speed. I don’t bother with stuns except for casters or if tanking when I usually have all three loaded.

In the end though we all have to find our own gear/path. With solo there are more options since you have to play all roles by yourself. Sure, there are more efficient methods and more efficient things to kill for exp but the main resource a paladin has to expend is patience. When you can outlast almost anything the real question is: Do you really want to?

Note: If anyone wants to try their joust skills an Earthshaker is a handy tool for green farming and offers potentially the biggest attack round (45+ with proc) minus *maybe* a Tantor’s Tusk. The Narandi is much better though 55+ if you have the time to let the dot work it’s magic while you helm click away. Some love it’s look (I don’t) but every proc is 700hps you don’t have to work for...
