Default my UI does not work in east commonlands

i have a strange issue that started mid gameplay. i was sitting around east commons tunnel selling stuff for a few hours while watching tv, when someone asked if i could go to west freeport to hand an item over, i did so and after completing the trade and re-entering east commons my client froze. i tried at least 20 times to get back on to no avail, constantly freezing after 1-2 seconds of being able to move. i logged on everyone else, and can run around this same zone just fine.

After i delete my UI i can run around on the problematic character as normal. and i can also restore the UI when NOT in east commonlands and the game functions as normal. i have been running around for about 30 minutes now in north ro, east/west/north freeport/oasis, etc. but the second i go into east commonlands it freezes again and i have to erase my UI so it resets to default. anyone know what is going on? makes no sense to me. had no issues for almost 2 months and have not changed anything at all since i started playing on this server.

It's very likely that you have a corrupted UI file for that toon, so here's what ya do.

1. Find another UI file in your <eq_installdir>\UI_Workingtoon_project1999.ini

2. Make a copy of it and it should look like this <eq_installdir>\UI_Workingtoon_project1999 - Copy

3. Take your original UI file <eq_installdir>\UI_non-workingtoonaname_project1999.ini, and create a backup of it by making a copy of it and pasting it in the same directory. It should look like this:

<eq_installdir>\UI_non-workingtoonaname_project1999.ini - Copy

4. Delete the original <eq_installdir>\UI_non-workingtoonaname_project1999.ini

5. Now rename the functional UI file from <eq_installdir>\UI_Workingtoon_project1999 - Copy to <eq_installdir>\UI_non-workingtoonaname_project1999.ini

6. Login non-workingtoonaname

7. Profit

isnt this just the long version of what i was doing with erasing the files and logging into the game so it produces new ones? i did this method but the result is the same with the UI still being lost (windows placement, filters on each window, etc.)

You'll have to forgive my lack of reading comprehension on that post. Indeed it is what you had stated.

I'm interested in what your debug log has to say about the issue. If you could clear the debug log and use the affected toon to login, hit a zone or two then go to EC. Paste the contents of the log here.

so i cleared it and ran from north ro, through freeport to east commons, its still pretty large. idk how to collapse it with this forum but here it is right up until client freeze. doesnt seem to say anything but idk anything about that stuff.

However, i fixed the issue just now by making a new log as we discussed, and copy pasting a chunk at a time from the corrupted one until the game froze again. apparently the culprit was one of my chat windows that was set to only receive auctions as after erasing the last chunk of text that caused the game to freeze, it no longer had that problem when i started it up again right after and that said window had vanished upon logging back in. i didnt want to lose my settings but it probably would have just been faster to do it all again than messing with all this. anyway thanks for your time, you gave me the idea to mess around in the file.
