After ordering Abbott's Michigan plant to close due to contamination concerns following a nationwide recall of baby formula, the FDA said the company can release some specialty formulas "on a case-by-case basis"

As parents across the U.S. are scrambling to find baby formula because of supply disruptions, the Food and Drug Administration announced Tuesday it would allow some formula products from the shuttered Abbott facility in Michigan to be released on a "case-by-case" basis.

Last month, however, the FDA and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention told NBC News none of the bacterial strains taken at the Abbott plant matched those collected from the infants, and the agencies haven't offered an explanation for how the contamination occured.

Amid baby formula shortage, factory stays shut as investigators try to pinpoint source of bacteria that sickened infants

The CDC said it found no match between bacteria samples from two sick infants and samples from a Michigan formula factory that paused production earlier this year.

The abbot factory didn't have any real major problems tho -- it's possible like 2 things happened there and were cleaned up and than the whistleblower bro went on an absolute rampage

the goverment shouldn't have shut the plant down

2 maybe babie deaths vs 1000's of babie deaths

also poopooo on the consumer for buying from one single national vendor that probably doesn't get all of it's incrediants and containers and shit from the USA -- they should have bought local. And if they can't find local should have started up local and subsidized it if neccissary - dumb ass Americans

The agency said one of the cases involved salmonella and three involved Cronobacter sakazakiim, a rare but dangerous germ that can cause blood infections and other serious complications.

The recalls have exacerbated ongoing shortages of infant formula due to supply chain issues.
