A whole slew of issues and new to P1999

So I installed fresh from EQ Trilogy.
I followed the guide an put the files into my EQ directory that contants EQ but not the official spot, so with that I launch the game and its lagging hard an doing black pointer until I go to next page to go to log in. I cannot login because I crash on attempt, I attempt to change options as well I crash. I tried downloading WinEQ to see if I can fix anything but I didnt see a definitive guide on how to use it let alone fix the issues I am having. Hoping someone can help me. Please an thank you.
