A co worker on opposite shift had a beta acct that he let me play while he was working. He played on Tarew Marr but my PC couldn't handle the lag. So I made a monk on Karana (was lowest pop beta server at the time).

I remember being scared to leave Freeport at night without a fire beetle eye, I was so frigging blind. Hooked ever since.

I don't remember for sure but I think started around June 1999, just when Rodcet Nife came on line, anyway. Many years were spent in the EQ world and in the years since, I would dream of EQ places and long to visit them once again... and now I can! It feels good to be home. Started in 1998, in either Alpha or early beta. I'm so old now so don't remember exactly what it was called. My buddy and I both started at the same time. We were both early Alpha testers for UO as well, but jumped to EQ as soon as our invites arrived in the mail.

We were both is the tech field, Intel network engineers and server admins. We had the luxury of Dual channel ISDN to our homes, which was as good as it got in those days when most people simply had a single POTS line.

Talking to your buddy on the phone while playing was unheard of back then. My how times have changed.

I will need to check my storage and see if I still have that 989 envelope.

Before Kunark but a couple months after launch. I was like 15 at the time. I remember fighting with my parents about going to bed on school nights. "But dad im on a raid! I cant abandon all these people!"

I remember the first time killing Trakanon. He was meleed by two OOM casters to his death. Everyone else died. Most rewarding experience i have had in a video game.

My first character was a woodelf warrior(terrible choice) named Kegdidar. I put a good 10 days played in and never broke level 20.

My main ending up being a halfling cleric named Bledsoe on the Nameless server. I quit when the raiding guild i was in suddenly disbanded and i didnt have the desire to work my way into another. This was during Velious. I never reached past level 55.

Pre-Kunark. Not right when it was released, but soon after. Came from UO and The Realm. I recall making a halfling cleric to start. I remember getting lost in Kithicor, going to Freeport to meet a friend shortly after I started, and my first glimpse of a Hill Giant in WC.. was my wow moment.

I played The Realm from version 2x thru 3x and left when EQ went live. Had a lvl 700+ human adventurer and a 500+ elf wizzie. My first MMO - a real old school side scroller, got a free demo on a Betrayal at Krondor disc. Before UO and EQ the server would hit 2k players at peak times, laggy as hell on dialup.

I can't tell if you are making fun of me or not Itap. I first played EQ in the April of 2000, the week after Sony released the Kunark expansion, not project1999.
