Water: The water elemental has nearly as many hit points as the earth elemental. In addition, it's agility is better (it gets hit less), and it has a super fast regeneration. These factors also make it a popular soloing pet. It casts a direct damage spell, though how much damage this does in relation to its attack and the DD spell of fire is unknown. Its strength and attack rate (if they are indeed applicable and differ between the elementals) is probably in the middle, between earth and air.

Nov, 1999 claims water pet has the fastest regen. But it's just that text, no examples or logs.

Here's one I found from 2001 where I specifically talked about the Water Pet's fast regen and poison immunity - http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/c...00662102725701

Water – This pet is the pet that is totally balanced. It has good hitpoints, good agility, and does good damage. Its special abilities are that it is immune to poison and that it has regen. This pet is good for when you are camping a spot where things re-pop very quickly, since it regains its hitpoints so quickly from the regen. It also shines when fighting snakes that poison, since it is immune to poison. And lastly, it is a great pet for when you are poor, because you can buy just this pet and do all right with only it.

On pets, yet again im saying this untill about lvl 34 earth is about as bad as using Fire to tank, (earth get hit alot canceling out the bonus of having a lot of HPS) there is not best pet but for soloing
Water is the best till 34. It has natural regen ( bout 4 hps a tick) Immune to poison,
Medium ac, good attack (better than earth) and it can back stab at lvl 39 o), Plus it has the second best hps and hits as bout as hard if not harder than earth. so making the water pet good ( imo the best ) for soloing below lvl 39

Also the regen is very nice. let an earth pet get beat down, and then compare its regen time to the water, you'll see what I mean

Water - This pet is your pet that is pretty much average in all areas. It has a good amount of hitpoints, does a good amount of damage, and has a fair amount of agility. It also regenerates hitpoints quickly and is immune to poison spells and effects.

I really hope water pets had faster regen and not that other pets had less regen, if you know what I mean. :x

Because that would mean everyone was getting excited for faster regen water pet when in fact they may be calling for a nerf on other pet's regen?

Burnout - This spell will make your pets regen their hp slower, but it will also make them attack better. A good pet buff spell. Always keep it on your pet.

I distinctly remember Water Pets having faster regen and poison resistance/immunity back in the day as well. I seem to recall the stuff about the different stats, too, but I'm less confident about that (I THINK I remember the Earth pet getting hit a bunch, but also hitting like a truck, and I have a very vague recollection of some Mages saying it wasn't worth putting a DS on the air pet because it didn't get hit enough).

I'm pretty sure there are even older pages, I gave up once I hit early 2001. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Whether or not water eles has more regen due to their being higher or other eles being lower, I did not determine. There are people who talk about downtime in some of those posts I linked.
There is more research that needs to be done on this imo.

Did people think it had fast regen because it had a lot less HP and the numbers ticked up faster? Possibly

The immunity to poison seems right though

It was at this point I decided to no longer be kind to the casuals as they have extreme short term memory. They did this to themselves, unfortunately.

Its not going to be because of low hp that the water pet seemed to regen faster. If this were the case, then the fire and air pets would seem to regen faster than the water pets. However, this was far from the case.

iirc , water pets had a flat +15 or so hp regen per tick at lvl 4 and this remained until higher levels (50+, perhaps) where the numbers for all the elementals change in calculus abit. Still, the water pet always outshined the other pets for health regen by far. And without commanding the pet to sit, which gave it additional hp regen if you did so. (cant remember if the sitting mechanic was classic or not, but i think so)
