Your roommate sounds like Toby Maguire in Wonder Boys...

In defense of that roommate, and myself to an extent, the examination of any complex thing over time takes the place of that original sense of wonder (resulting from complexity) which might otherwise be lost. In this case, that complex thing happens to be mankind particularly in regards to fame and creative decision-making.

In this way there's a larger conversation going on out there that directors and actors are having with each other and another separate one with the audience to meet its demands/exceed its expectations. The same could be said for other skills as well.

So while the average person today won't be mastering a craft within their lifetime, they can still live vicariously through those that do and come away with a greater appreciation for what went into the end product...which changes the way they handle it, value it beyond the sticker price, and see it in relation to everything else. Snobs try to make an art out of integrating these listed things, mistaking the rigidity of their selections for personal achievements. It's the antithesis of thoughtless consumerism and yet it serves the same hollow function behind product placement. He was wearing his cornflower blue tie. Forget the fact that it's easier to criticize than it is to create, even when those critiques are done in an orderly manner (bug forums section). People say the Notre Dame Cathedral is "just a building" and then have a bitch of a time putting together their new IKEA desk.

It shouldn't be all that hard to understand. After all, this entire project is devoted to recognizing and cataloging what you described except, instead of directors and actors, there are developers and players at work. Similarly, most outsiders wouldn't be able to understand why anyone would ever participate in this, the painstaking reconstruction of an old and increasingly obscure virtual world...and they would also dismiss all knowledge of it as a waste of neurons.

TL;DR—Life imitates art imitating life breaking down the fourth wall.

That’s an excellent post, Ennewi! To iterate my point less rudely, it’s not a personal interest of mine. I’m fairly anti-celebrity, which I assume is where the disconnect occurs and that is fine. People have different opinions. The phenomenon of people being wrong who don’t like the things I like and vice versa isn’t a new thing to me. I just acknowledge the fact those person are my mortal enemies from that point forward, and then plot ways to destroy them. In this world of clashing opinions, it’s important to know how to deal with people.

And lastly, it's not a movie, but a show called True Detective starring Woody h. And Matthew m.
It's probably one of the best shows I've seen in my life. Had me on the edge of my seat the whole time, I watched the whole thing in about 1 sitting

I'm disapointed that Topgunben isn't a huge Top Gun fan.

Definitely a good movie. Not sure if it would make the Top 10 though.

my name actually came from this:

https://www.amazon.com/Thrustmaster-.../dp/B000NE91BC

in 1999 I was an 12 year old boy, with little imagination. I grabbed the first inspiration I could and added my first name to the end of it. Topgunben was born alive and well on EQ. Unfortunately i didnt have a damn clue what was going on and spent the next 6 months trying to solo a barbarian warrior to level 30 in Everfrost.

Being anti-celebrity is probably the most sane option in an age when everyone's encouraged to have their fifteen minutes and then some through social media. Like actual celebrities, a lot of them turn out to be fake, self-involved assholes—people who have worked in sound and lighting say as much about the former at least. But then there still tends to be a certain amount of curiosity and/or envy when it comes to opposing life choices.

So what you're saying is, you killed your roommate (likely with poison because rogue main) then disposed of the remains which, now having had time to decompose, are little more than garbage bag stew in an old abandoned storage unit... For future reference, I prefer galvanized steel bins, but at the end of the day Rubbermaid will do. It's better than being ashes in a Folgers can at least.

*Adding another film to the previous list: The Libertine.
