Am I hindering myself

I want to play Gnome Cleric, but I see High Elf has better starting stats. Question is how important are starting stats? Am I gimping myself as Gnome? Thanks

They don't matter hardly at all

Gear more than makes up for any races starting stats.

Wisdom is easy to cap

Maxing wisdom is possible even if you go max cha and rest in sta on gnome. It may not be easy however but for most part it doesn’t matter. Gnomes have wall vision which is cool.

Only downside is no useful diety items, best likely being human and dark elf. Not sure how useful tunare root neck is but they get nice bracers though.

I’d personally go gnome.

X-ray gnome vision with walls is maybe the best thing ever. You can get into The Hole without a key or shrink. If you end up raiding being preshrunk is really nice.

Gnome is fine, wisdom is easy to cap with gear.

Race means not very much in this game
