Default Pet exp penalty

What happens if a level 40 groups with a level 1? Does their pet still take 50% of the experience?

I'd think you would be more worried about the level 40 causing all your xp to drain into a void of nothingness than the pet xp. But lets just say you did get xp. Your pet would still take 50%.

A level 1 grouping with a level 40 would be like one of those DIVIDE BY ZERO situations.

Nah, opposite situation. I'm the level 40 wanting to know if I can get rid of the pet exp penalty by inviting the level 1.

Just invite the lowest possible level halfling warrior/rogue/Druid possible to leach as little exp as possible while you kill its a win win for you both and have them go sell loots for PLing them.

You may have to test it to find out, OP.

If true, you could have a friend log in a level 1 and group with you and then AFK all day, allowing you to solo without the pet eating any exp. I don’t know whether this would work. I don’t know whether the game would count you as “grouped” since you’re not grouped with a player within exp range.

You can group with someone, not be in the same zone, and the game only checks if you’re in a group, bypassing the pet taking any xp

In classic, the level 1 would still steal a share of the XP, it would just disappear into the ether. On p99, dunno.

In classic, the pet would steal a full share of the XP if it did 50%+ damage grouped. On p99, I suspect it would steal nothing.

Unfortunately, no one that I've asked seems to know the answer.

I literally answered your question. You can have a group with someone else who’s not in zone, the game does a check to see if you’re grouped, and you get full xp.
