They are rare and under valued, niche too because no one levels mage past 55
They were around 1k pre revamp, if no one levels mages why the hell are they so expensive now? Assuming the golems were pulled during that time, everyone and their mule should have one rotting in the bank

Is that blue server prices? I imagine blue was flooded from all the ae groups clearing ever golem twice an hour.
On green they were definitely more common pre revamp but green never had the ae groups clearing everything

Yea blue server, I remember buying one for 1 - 1.5k before the revamp and sold it for the same. Now the wiki shows recent auction listings for 15-20k.. farmed to infinity on blue, yet that price tag, I guess to PL the cothbot army?

Id prob farm and buy one. it's kinda nice but more for at 60 while trying to just add dps mana-free. for leveling up I never found mine very useful, at least how mages solo

I had one on my mage and ended up getting rid of it.

I hated the long cast time.

It’s only “Mana free” when you ignore the lost med ticks. Factoring in the long cast time it actually costs 45 mana per click. Its still better than using 45 worth of mana in a head to head comparison but let’s not be silly and assume that 24.666 dps is anything to write home about.

I’d rather actively manage my real source of dps (the pet) and have plenty in reserve from the extra med time to effectively keep DS up and lob bigger nukes on priority targets than stand there spamming a 13.5 sec click for a pretty crappy DD.

One of the biggest perks of the mage is it’s such a relaxed and “not busy” class.

It's good when you have a hard fight (eg. you were fighting one mob, and got another as an add), and you're OOM but the mob still has a few HP: the Burnt Wood Staff is perfect for finishing them off.

If you're desperate, have JBoots, and are using the earth pet, you can even get the pet to land a root, back it off and run as far as you can while staying in range of the staff, and then start the staff cast. You should have time to land the spell before the mob gets to you, and then you can send the pet back on them until another root procs.

It sounds stupid, but when you're OOM and your pet is almost dead, but the mob still has just enough HP to keep it from running, those sort of shenanigans can let you turn a loss into a win.

This is some emergent gameplay, nice! I used the staff a lot while leveling on blue, it's a great piece of kit, and with the resale the way it is, worth buying
