Default Velk Faction

Anyone else notice the bard/enchanter nerf to Velks Lab? Previous to
the patch Monday, bards and enchanters could sing/cast a faction spell
and become dubious to all mobs in Velks Lab. Now faction stays KoS,
which makes CR in certain areas pretty much impossible without a necro
to summon corpse.
I petitioned, and the GM I spoke with agreed that there was nothing in
the patch message to indicate that this was planned, and suggested
that I submit a /bug, which I did. I've also been asking any bard or
enchanter I see in the zone to do the same thing. This probably isn't
a big deal, unless you are a bard/enchanter who actually liked being
able to explore a dungeon and go places where even monks fear to
tread.

No, there were and are lots of places that I could cast a faction buff
to fix KOS, including Kael at this very moment. I'm slightly KOS to
frost giants, I sing faction song, I'm now dubious and can travel
freely. I've done the same trick in Grobb, and in certain parts of
Neriak.
I did some more playing around in Velks Lab and what they have done is
set the default faction lower on all mobs in the zone. Mobs used to
glare at everyone, then switch to dubious with the application of
faction song/spell. Now they all start of scowling at everyone and
change to glare with faction adjustment.
Why do you call this a bug rather than a nerf? Was it a bug to have
Kael start off glare to everyone but Rallos Zek worshippers? Or to
have Thurg start off not KOS to most folks? There was an un-announced
change to faction in one of the more popular high-level zone, the GM I
spoke to knew nothing about it before I demonstrated it to him. There
was nothing in the patch message, and I've seen nothing from Verant
indicating it was intended. So yes, that is damn well a nerf until
Verant says that it was intended. I bet you thought the bard selos
drum bug was not a nerf either, since no other class could increase
their speed by as large a margin.

Unsure of the implementation on p1999. I didn't find any references to people using werewolf form until luclin or later.

I don't think even collaboration puts you non-kos in Velks here. Needs werewolf form here. Can remember 65 bards w/ Lute playing around in Velks all day.

Anyhow:

-Enchanters have it great in the zone, they can cast Illusion Werewolf and case Collaborate on any mob, as long as you havent taken a negative hit with Velketor faction. You may now move around the zone freely.
With a Post-LDON era note (they include LDoN and have Velvet Shawl of Dusk listed which was when they were reitemizing a bunch of the 60 zones):

Scratch this above. Recent changes to our non racial illusion spells make this impossible now
In addition, here is era appropriate stuff:

Additionally.. bards who haven't killed Velk will be able to hit a mob in the zone with carillion and become non-Kos. I tested this last night, and was able to walk around without aggroing anything, though I didn't go in very deep. Killing normal mobs in the zone doesn't give a faction hit, so theoretically, bards would be a fair choice for pulling here. Keep in mind the traps can still get you.. but wander around and have fun.

Encs were definitely running around Velks during Luclin, while everyone was grinding AAs there like crazy.

My Luclin experience on Innoruuk was every spider having a 2 minute average lifespan due to melees solo grinding AAs there. Enchanters were off AEing (usually Acrylia) or abusing dire charm somewhere else.

What year was that? I played in Velk regularly before and after Luclin hit, and most spiders were being camped by full groups, with 40-60 people in zone most of the evenings.

Most of 2002? Luclin was only Dec 01 to Oct 02.

Everything seems to vary heavily by server, but Velks seemed like a good zone where a melee could solo/duo/trio at a good rate, access easy from Nexus/bazaar, mooch buffs/heals/regen, and get a rez easily if needed. My experience is that the spiders were extinct for most of that expansion.

As an side, Acrylia AE was completely gutted circa April/May 2002? They added a bunch of mobs that were either 1) unstunnable, 2) MR, or 3) FR/CR. There was also Chardok, Sebilis (though usually too camped), The Grey, Karnors Basement, Fungus Grove prime for AE'n. The Deep and SSRA tunnels could have been as well, but I didn't see that AE'd much until PoP tbh. The enchanters I played with seemed to only bother w/ AE groups or breaking Dire Charm. Outside of AE'n, AAs came extremely slowly in Luclin.
