Default Necro pet Dual Wield?

How does Necro pet dual wield work? wiki is confusing on this. Do two weopons need to be on pet for this to work? or is crackling bones forward have dual wield built in?

seems many people are not 100% sure when i ask other necros in game.

much thanks

Two one-handers/bard instrument/stein/torch will make any 20+ pet class's summoned pet dual wield. You can always give them two different weapon types (1hb and 1hs) to make sure.

Cackling Bones (44) Necro pet dual wield automatically, so no need to give him anything unless you want procs. Also naturally procs a weak (11 damage) lifetap that goes off pretty frequently.

Max level 39 pet will dw automatically.

Lowest level 44 pet should not dw automatically iirc.

How does that work? The 39 pet dual wields but the 44 pet you have to give weapons to...shouldn't it be the other way around?

Because of max and min levels.

The highest level 39 necro pet is let's say... Level 35, the lowest level for pets to DW.
The lowest level 44 necro per is let's say... Level 34, too low to DW.

All pet spells have a range of several levels about 3-5 level spread. The pet could be anywhere from 32-35 for example. If you hit the high end of the range it DWs for the level 39 pet spell. If you hit the low end of the range it doesn't DW for the level 44 pet spell.

The highest 39 pet is the same level as the lowest 44 pet, with the same max hit. Hence why they both dual wield innately on P1999.
