You're wrong, are a terrible negotiator, or waste money on GCs. Maybe all of the above.

I'm always my own GC. I'll pay a paint store for paint, and appliance store for appliances, a kitchen store for cabinets, etc. The labor doesn't get paid until the job is done. Ever.

Fact remains, the minute this guy pays Siryoyo 50% for fulfilling 50% of the order, he goes back to the bottom of the list while shitbag shops buyers against him on each subsequent drop of the loop/hoop he is still waiting on.
You might have been able to strong arm some menial laborer by refusing to pay until the entire job is done...but you know jack about how the actual law works.

Congrats on being wealthy enough to dick over poor uneducated people who can't afford to take you to court.

I would love to see you build a house to code using your home depot parking lot work force you are describing. You aren't going to pass plumbing, hvac, or electrical inspections, thats for damn sure. I am a tradesman and have to fix shit behind the kind of laborer you hire all the time.

Alevert was obviously not his own GC even in the way you are describing. He saw an advertisement for a service, messaged the contractor, got half of the job done and decided he no longer wants the job completed and won't pay for the time and material that was invested to date.

It seems like you have a hard time with getting paid after you complete the job. Once again, nobody is saying you aren't getting paid at all. You just aren't getting paid until you finish.

How does that require your law degree?

Myself I'm a professional toilet unclogger. And if I make a deal to unclog two toilets do you think I expect to get paid for unclogging one toilet? Do you have any idea what a "contract" is? The deal is to unclog two toilets and i unclogged one toilet. As per the contract I haven't earned nothin. And you damn well better understand that in the real world, asking for payment after unclogging just one toilet erodes an employer's trust in you. In the real world, where I live, the second toilet gets unclogged THEN I go back and say motherfucker now pay me. And if he doesn't want to pay I pull out my dirty rotary tools and I spin them in the air and SPLASH WHIRRR a spray covers the man's office. And I say there's your unclogged toilet.

Right.

If someone has a contract with you to do work and they do some of the work AND you benefit from the work they do then you are required to pay them something. If you can't negotiate the amount of that something then they will sue you and a judge will decide how much of the original agreement they are entitled to.

You can't get out of paying someone if you have received some benefit merely because you claim that the work wasn't completed to your satisfaction. There would have to be more facts than that to just walk away from the contract without paying someone for work that they did actually complete...even if it wasn't finished, if you have received the benefit from the work they did complete.

The contract in this case has clearly broken down...nonetheless, the buyer has obviously received a good. He is not entitled to keep the good and all the money. The amount he owes might be half, less than half, or some other amount...but he owes something for the work he received and benefited from.

Sorry...you can't just not pay people who did work on your house merely because you decide to claim that the work wasn't completed to your satisfaction. It has to be more than just that to legally get off the contract without owing them a dime.

What if you were at the McDonalds drive thru line and ordered two Big Macs for $8 and when you pulled up they only had one? What would you do?!
