On Green? Duo xp is a bit tricky due to the lack of hunting spots. If on Blue? Necro would be the fastest xp you can probably get in a duo. Enchanters have the best fear spell and of course haste so that's another strong option.

Necro actually sounds pretty cool here.

I would go with necro or enchanter as well. Ranger snares and acts as a glorified necro or enchanter pet for fear kiting. Enchanter is using up mana to keep a pet charmed, but can haste for quicker kills. Maybe less downtime with a necro, though.

I enjoyed partnering up with a Ranger when playing my Necro. Here are some thoughts:
It is possible to "tank and spank" lower-blue mobs if the ranger doesn't feel like fear kiting. The necro can keep a steady flow of HP going back to the ranger; also, if you are 53+, the ranger can tank while the rogue pet backstabs. This is not as viable the closer you get to white-con mobs Fear-kiting is the most mana-efficient, though can be annoying for the Ranger. Using the most-powerful snare, while unnecessary in terms of mana used, can make life a lot easier (less-annoying) for the ranger chasing things around with the pet skelly. A more-powerful snare means that the mob is running away a bit slower Rangers have harmony and sow, two clutch spells missing from the necro's (otherwise robust) toolbelt. Though rangers are preferable pullers in this duo, the necro can also take turns pulling and splitting if need be. An example I had with this was duo'ing with my ranger buddy at the Giant "Fort" in Wakening Lands Finally, if you're hunting near "good-aligned" vendors, the ranger can loot and sell; conversely, if you're hunting near the swamps or evil vendors, the necro may be able to loot/sell (with skelly illusion especially) | ||

Necro/Ranger will be fun in Kunark, in classic it will not be that great....shaman is hard to beat as a partner for any melee.

Another nice thing about wiz+ranger is, once the mob is at low-hp fleeing status, the ranger can finish it off with melee, saving the wizard's mana. Ranger+Cleric would be a good combo, but I think you'd wish for the str/sta/agi/dex and haste of the shaman. One combo people often neglect to consider is ranger+druid, which I think can also work well - especially outdoors, of course. People say they don't like it because of the overlap, but it's not a worse duo just because both partners have snare, root, and flame lick. For dungeon-diving, shaman may be the best. Plus, you could add almost any class to ranger+shaman and have an awesome trio.
