Default Locking Windows and not crashing EQ

Did you guys find a way?

Every time I lock Windows with Win-L or Ctrl-Alt-Del > Lock, P99 crashes.

did you try opening properties on the eqgame.exe file, clicking on the compatibility tab, and then selecting windows XP service pack 3? that worked for me.

Changed nothing, still crash 100% of the time when locking the screen or even just pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del.
Oh well.

Try right clicking on window and locking them that way? I never had any crashing problems.

They're locking their computer - not the UI windows.

It's not perfect, but running EQ through the WineD3D wrapper seems to prevent lock screen crashes for me.

I bought a new computer recently with a GTX 1650 and kept running into this issue. Completely randomly, the screen would freeze, although there was still background sound and the game continued to go. I would have to /quit out and reload. It could happen once in an hour or once in ten minutes. I tried all of the suggestions that I could find on the forums including editing the eqclient.ini to change the refresh rate to 60, altering window size to be consistent amongst the options, trying WinEQ 2.0, dgVoodoo2 and finally I stumbled on froomee's suggestion.

If I put wined3d.dll and d3d8.dll in the EQ folder (C:\EverQuest for me) and run the client itself (without WinEQ 2.0), I now no longer get any crashes. My eqclient.ini reads:

[VideoMode]
Width=1280
Height=960
WidthWindowed=1280
HeightWindowed=960
WindowedWidth=1280
WindowedHeight=960
FullscreenBitsPerPixel=32
FullscreenRefreshRate=60
WinEQWidth=1280
WinEQHeight=960

Hopefully this will help someone else feeling desperate after upgrading to a newer PC. Thanks froomee!

Hey - that's a good tip. Consider adding it to the tech support wiki:
