If you have two bag slots and good faction with gnomes in SolA.

Buy two Tinker bags at 5040p each. Sell two Tinker bags at 4940p each.

You just moved 10k for 200p.

Or sell them for slightly above what you payed in the tunnel. Alternatively just save up stacks of high level gems that dropped in the bank and use those so you don't lose anything.

With 105 or higher charisma the best return you can get is 98%. This should be the same for pretty much all gems. Personally I use platinum bars since they go for a convenient 100plat each.

Fishing Bait can get you a straight 1:1 at 3 copper each. But really, you should be using that to catch fish.

The greater the value of the item the less resell value it has, as a general rule of thumb.

Ruby for example: (info off p99 wiki)
These are sold by merchants to players for ~142pp
Merchant resale value: 129p 6g 7s 4c

---
My go-to while leveling is buying food/water in bulk to eat up my excess gold.

More plat than I know what to do with and I still hold on to my copper and silver for this very purpose while leveling.

Peridots are good for multiple reasons. Carrying them helps out classes that use them, and they have decent resell when needed. Not great but decent enough to not be a drastic net loss. I also recommend Baler's statement that investing heavily in food/water is a great way to burn up your excess lesser coin.

You can move any amount of plat with sow and a combination of binding/gating. I just use a Druid who can port to Misty for tunnelquesting. Is that the goal?

For general playing there are other ways of converting gold to plat, or carrying around port plat (gems, elf leaf, etc). The tink bag idea is great [You must be logged in to view images. I use sapphires, sold by merchants to players for ~108pp.
Merchant resale value: 98pp 8g
Easy to count your money using them.
