"Freedom of speech" refers more to the citizenry being able to openly criticise the government's actions without reprisal. It's not a licence to be an asshole to whoever you like.

Look I do agree most of the time. 99% of the stuff you gotta just let slide. The undirected stupid stuff said doesn't deserve a crusade. But don't tolerate directed harassment more than any other person would just because you're trans. That's what I'm trying to get at. I feel like a lot of us do because...well...it's harder to be assertive. I'm not even saying this so much for myself. I've never seriously contemplated suicide. It's for the trans who have.
